Al's Moving and Storage

This review has been updated after a conversation with the owner's son, who displayed a shocking lack of accountability regarding my awful experience with Al's Moving. His behavior was not just unprofessional; it was downright bullying. Al’s Moving Company has attempted to distort the reality of a disastrous interstate moving job. I was originally promised a move-in date of August 16th, and while I specifically requested a later arrival time for the truck, the delivery didn't occur until August 18th.

Al’s Moving and Storage is an absolutely horrible company. The owner and his entire office are the most disturbing bunch of people I’ve ever encountered. I strongly advise anyone to stay away from them. Someone recommended Al’s to my fiancé, even though they personally haven’t stored there before. But it was a friend of a friend situation. Al came in to inspect the house originally and had zero eye contact with me, even when I tried to ask anything- he would absolutely ignore me and deal with a man excessively.

The movers worked hard. They were tipped well at the end in addition to their lunch paid for with bottled water provided through out their day. Sadly, there were instances of lack of professionalism with the team lead and ownership. Specifically, the TL answered some of our inquiries with "What are you taking about?" Or more egregious like Owner's Son (Joe) unable to handle some heat about the tardiness of the drivers for the job (40 minutes for a 20 minute drive).

I have been using Al's Moving for over 20 years on many moves. During my most recent move, one of their employees slashed a leather chair with a box cutter. Their answer was to offer me $25 after I submitted the cost and photos of my chair. The chair cost me $1.500 a year earlier. Unlike other movers they obviously do not carry sufficient insurance for your belongings and do not tell you this upfront. The insurance they carry is 60 cents per pound.

Do not use this company unless you like being robbed of your money. They hid their billing structure and were not transparent about it whatsoever. They did not explain that they charge a minimum of 30 minutes of travel time each time the truck moves. I live within 10-15 minutes of the warehouse and 10-15 minutes from the new place I was moving to. Total travel time from them leaving the warehouse and going back after everything was done should have been at most 30 - 45 minutes being generous.

When they came in and started moving out items so quickly, I was really pleasantly surprised! However, when they rushed through the job in 2.5 hours (we paid for a minimum of 4 hours), left 1/4 of our things behind that we then had to move ourselves, I became unpleasantly disappointed. When they were rushing out to leave after 2.5 hours, we alerted them that we still had 1.5 hours left that we were paying for, our bed and table were not reassembled, and that there were plenty of items they had forgot at the…

Al's responded, that they would like to followup and make this right for me....I'm waiting... Al's has my email and phone info. I expect if they want to make this right, they would contact me., I'm waiting......????? Used Al’ for 3 local moves. No complaints, they were great. Used Al’ for long distance move and was worst experience. Relocating is stressful enough but to deal with rude, insensitive staff made move more stressful than should have been.

STOP!! Please read this before you choose this moving company. They came highly recommended by my real estate agent so I booked my move from NY to Fla. Use them at your own risk. As long as they don't lose or damage your stuff I guess you'll be ok (maybe) They lost 2 of my dining room chairs and have taken no responsibility for it at all. They can care less, not their problem. "call the insurance company" that is going to be your answer....so get ready for the song and dance routine. I'm out 2 dining room chairs.
