In their own words
Arrived in a rented U-Haul truck to move my stuff. When I asked why they didn't have a professional moving truck, they said their trucks were all booked up. That's funny, because I reserved my move (and paid) 60 days in advance. I mean, I could rent my own U-Haul truck and get some buddies to help me move, but I thought "professional" movers are professional, right? Also, the owner guy got mad and was literally yelling and barking orders at me, like I'm a member of his crew!
During the move, Starving Artists damaged my father-in-law’s gutter and a stone pillar in the driveway. He called and emailed multiple times about trying to find a reasonable resolution and was totally ghosted by the company. Very …
This company moved me from North Lawrence to the Fairfield Farms area. The service was terrible. I feel like the movers had no respect for my property. For example one employee continually dropped boxes on his dolly rather than bending over to place the boxes on the dolly. I moved into a brand new townhouse and they scratched the metal door, several pieces of furniture were scratched or gouged. They scraped several places on the walls and put a dent into the sheet rock. They were just careless.
What a mess. They sent two literal high school students who didn’t know how to load a truck (and were late), so they started putting all the light stuff towards the cab and furniture towards the door (a recipe for fishtailing). One kid said he’d worked there 2 weeks, the other 2 months and neither had been trained at all. They brought furniture out upside down (causing shelves to fall out), gouged the walls, etc.
It pains me to write this review. I have used Starving Artists Moving 3 times now. The first move from an apartment to a house-- 3 movers, $125 /hr, cost me $850. The second move from a house to another house--3 movers, cost $950. Yesterday, for my third move I had less stuff than the first move, and was given an estimate of $850-$950. In the 98 degree heat they sent two movers. They were scheduled to arrive between 8:30 and 9:30, but did not arrive until 10:30am.

Don’t waste your time here. Had a simple move and the two people who showed up were extremely unprepared and the main guy had a pouting attitude the whole time. I ended up doing half the moving myself and still have things to move in from my own vehicle because I was too busy helping the paid movers move. I have chronic health issues which is why movers were needed and they didn’t even bring a dolly to move the boxes in an elevator.
They called at the time they were supposed to be there to day they woukd be 40 mins late. Then took a lunch while they were supposed to be moving my things. When they finally got there it was 2 guys that reeked of weed. They charge by the hour and were high, so moving very slowly and milking the clock. They broke my bed, put a hole in my picture and ripped some lights off my entertainment center. They were supposed to help me pick up a washer and dryer but we missed the pickup time.
We will make changes to correct this so it will not happen again. My apologies for the poor service you received. It is not how we have maintained a solid business for over 20 years. It will be fixed. … More
I had hoped to resolve my issues with our move through an email with the owner. After two emails have been ignored, I resort to sharing our experience in hopes of saving others from the same fate, and most likely a call to an attorney. …

In their own words
Starving Artists movers (5 diffferent folks in a long day) were prompt, careful, & courteous. We really enjoyed working with them. At the end of the day Boss Craig gave us a very good price, although we had much more to move than we …
I was able to quickly and easily arrange to have a piece of furniture picked up from a local business and delivered to my home. The movers were clean, neat, and polite. They were attentive to details and made certain nothing was missing. The only suggestion I have is a little more training re: how to position large pieces to smoothly clear a ceiling overhang.
I recently moved for the first time in decades and utilized their services to do it. The whole experience was made so much better with their assistance. The three young men who moved me were all fantastic workers and very respectful. They were worth every penny spent. Highly recommend.
I was very pleased with Starving Artists movers in Lawrence, Ks. They handled my office furniture carefully and worked efficiently. I’ve used them before with several office moves and definitely recommend them. They were able to help me with short notice which was greatly appreciated.
