In their own words
Used them to move from Madison and Chicago to DC. Had a sub par experience. In loading at Madison, items that needed to be protected got packed. The exact plan for loading was not communicated. They could have elaborated the degree to which the house needed to be packed when taking the estimate. They were 3 hours late to the moving appointment in Chicago. They forgot to load a 5 foot plant in the loading dock in Chicago.
Initial customer service was good, but was told we would get a call back to confirm that afternoon. No Call back. Called again the next day, was told they were busy and someone would call us back within the hour, again no call back. Called again during business hours, no answer on phone, left message to call us back again, and again no return call, heard good things about this co., but zero response is not acceptable when trying to plan a move!
Hi Carl, Sorry for the lack of communication in getting things set-up. As a small local moving company we try to stay on top of things and know that sometimes we are not available to get to right away.
Don't do business with ABOVE AVERAGE MOVER'S your belongings will be damaged and the owner TERRY and his uninsured mover's are LIARS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL if I could give them 0 star's I would
Hey Timeka, I can respect your review as I knew you would not be happy with my reply to your email. I am sorry I could not verbally communicate with you but you have been hostile with myself and my office staff since you have claimed this damage.
Tl;dr seems more of a below average moving The good: - super nice on the phone, easy to schedule, movers were polite enough The not so good: -showed up an hour and a half early - a time I specifically turned down as I had a early morning doctors appointment. I got a call as I was leaving the office they were at my house. This lead to unlabeled boxes, unfinished organizing, and rushing to a less smooth move. In hindsight I should've put my foot down and said no, we are not ready.
I used this company a few weeks back to move. I was able to get a quote right away and they were able to accommodate a last minute move fairly easily. The moving crew was even nice. HOWEVER I would NEVER use them again, nor recommend them to anyone! During the move my brand new sectional and mattress was damaged, multiple rips. The moving crew said someone would call me, that never happened. I called 6 times to date and have never received a call back.

One fan broke and they left my pallet at the storage facility. Promised to bring back the pallet and never did. Refused to reimburse me for the fan. I didn't even ask for reimbursement for the small gouges left in my wall. Would not use again, would not recommend, which is too bad because the movers themselves were nice guys.
Movers were great but I was wrongful charged for an hour and a half extra. I called five times in the span of two and a half weeks and all I got is “I’m waiting for my manager to come back” I don’t know what to do at this point. I left two additional messages. Please help me if you see this message…give me a call back please.

AMAZING!!!!! To make a long story short we had hired a Company out of GB to come move us from Legend Lake to Beaver Dan WI. Due to my husbands health issues I had to trust a company to come in and pack and move. Lets just say we got Screwed big time. We were charged a huge fee and still didnt have our belongings they had been put in storage so we had to find someone that could come in and step up for us and all with all the issues with convo19 . Well let me introduce you to one of the best Crews around.
We used Above Average Moving to move our law office and were so impressed with their service. They were responsive, accommodating, on time, fast, and very kind. Whenever we needed something, even on short notice, they delivered. We felt that we got such great value, and couldn't have asked for more out of Above Average. Highly recommend using them for any move. Thank you Terry and team!

Thank god for Above Average Movers restoring my faith in the industry after a horrible experience with a different company the day before. Needless to say, I needed to hire new movers and fast, and to find one that would move a safe. I spoke to the owner of this company, he was friendly, personable, and professional, and best of all he understood my urgency and was able to fit me in for the following day. They showed up on time (even a bit early) and immediately got to work hauling the safe up the stairs.
Update Jan 23, 2026 We were getting new furniture and wanted to donate the pieces we were replacing. I reached out to Terry and found that his team was able to get the job done and furniture delivered to charity with only two days notice. The two man team came on time and accomplished what was needed in a timely and professional manner. They even took on some extra items for donation. We never considered using any other company for this project.
