Overcharged me, didn't wrap my furniture or provide floor runners and doorway protection like the contract stated, broke my bookshelf, and would not move my punching bag (even though it was okay'd in the quote I was given). When I complained to management, not only did I get yelled at by the owner, essentially called a liar, and was not given any feedback on if they'd be refunding what they overcharged, I decided to file a complaint with the BBB.
So unprofessional. Post move, I called to clarify why we received a 45 minute drive fee of $105 (the apparent time it took to drive 7 miles from their shop to our house due to traffic and pushed the move window past the time they promised). I've moved at least 20 times with the military and have never paid for a company to sit in traffic, nor have I paid for travel time if I am only paying for labor (my truck was already at the location).
Called me the day before delivery to delay delivery for 3 weeks…..because she didn’t have a full truck. “I can’t lose hundreds of dollars on your delivery. It’s a heavy item and it takes 3 men.”
I called someone named Tammi, not Bella Mae, to advise her that unfortunately, we aren't able to deliver her massage chair as the other orders for her area( which is 5 hours from us) have not arrive yet, and we can't go up there with only 1 delivery. She then began to yell and scream at me.
Just moved last weekend. They placed furniture in front of and on top of air vents at the new place, this has happened in two different moves. They messed up our king bed and it didn't inflate properly. They packed up my bed and it's an adjustable base, they unplugged it put the cord in the truck and didn't return the cord. My bed is now useless without that cord. Have made 3 different calls about it, haven't had a call back and are ignoring me at this point. Do not recommend, do not use them for their services.
Working for a large school district, I’m often asked for recommendations on movers. I simply show people the pictures of my property that was damaged beyond repair and let them make their own choice. They NEVER choose Mad City Movers after viewing the pictures and hearing the details of my experience. Not only were many expensive items broken, but they refused to stand behind anything except one chair that they repaired.
Extremely rude and unprofessional. DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT USING THIS COMPANY! I was expecting a freight delivery of a dining table. The day before I got a voicemail stating that they needed to reschedule, which wasn’t a big deal. I called them back to confirm reschedule and they told me they were 30 minutes from my residence. Mind you I was under the impression they were rescheduling so I was not in the area which I calmly informed them of.
We moved at the end of October. We were quoted $780, they charged us $1150 at the end of the day. They said we had WAY more than we said we did...we didn't. The two men complained the whole time and damaged my son's crib and our coffee table. When we called to reconcile the damage, they send out an old man recovering from pneumonia. Brenda told us they don't replace your item if you don't have a receipt from time of purchase and even then they fix things, they don't replace.
We hired Mad City during Covid-19 and expected them to provide professional service to our dismay they were everything but that. We had a three man crew and they were irritated and rude from the beginning. One was professional but one of them also smelled of alcohol. I called and informed Brenda of the events that transpired and she said she knew immediately who smelled of alcohol. As a business owner how could you possibly know that someone has an alcohol problem and send them to do a driving job.

First-time customer and very satisfied. Prompt and friendly communication by email and/or phone. Moving staff arrived on time and were efficient and respectful. They took extra care to not cause any damage. Asked for my preferences in terms of where items should be set. Took care of disassembling & reassembling bed frames. We had a great experience with Mad City Moving. They arrived with a large enough crew to efficiently move our entire three-bedroom, two-bath home. Before moving day, they coordinated with us about everything that would require special handling, including custom crates for fragile items, mattress covers, and our antique furniture. That planning gave us a lot of confidence. We weren't as organized as we would have liked to be, but the crew took charge professionally and kept everything moving smoothly.
Update! We used these folks again for our last move not quite three years ago - we had another fabulous experience. The team of movers was two younger guys under the direction and assistance of the guy who had moved us ten year prior (stayed with the company all that time!). They got us out of a three story townhome into a ground floor ranch in three hours. Oh my goodness - they deserved the generous tip we gave them (specifically since this one came in under what we were quoted because they were so efficient!).

We couldn't have asked for a better moving experience! Our move from Madison to downtown Chicago was handled flawlessly from beginning to end. The entire crew was incredibly professional, friendly, hardworking, and efficient. They arrived right on time, took exceptional care of our furniture and belongings, and kept us informed throughout the entire process. I expected moving into downtown Chicago to be challenging, but the team handled every detail with confidence and expertise.
