In their own words
We were very dissatisfied with our move. First, we were scheduled for a packing day and they did not show up. Secondly, they lost our 60" flat screen TV. Then one of our front steps was damaged during the move. We did not notice the damage for a couple of days, because we always go through the garage. We first contact Allied and then Carey Moving and were told because "we did not write down anything on the paperwork the day of the move", they would not do anything for us.
Saying that hiring this company to manage my long distance move was one of the worst decisions of my life would be an understatement. When they came to view my items to estimate a cost to move, she was fantastic. Even the ladies writing quotes were great. We hit a stumbling block at the movers. These guys took apart everything that would come apart (and some that didn’t, but they made them anyways). They were late every day and left early every day.
Mrs. Goldsburg, I apologize for the difficulties during your move. I appreciate your time in making this review. We will look into what happened.
The most unprofessional moving company! Do not use them! I paid for a ferry and tractor trailer. They showed up with a ferry truck and no tractor trailer. They did not come to work! They showed up at 12-2 pm. What should have been one day was 3! They lost all the plugs and cables! The fire sticks are gone. All my furniture was not covered. They destroyed most of my decorator furniture. They split it to two loads instead of what I contracted for. The second load was crushed and damaged.
This moving company removed my items from my house with no problem. When they placed it in storage they decided to take my weight bench, desk, and other items apart. They miss placed a lot of the hardware. This company failed to pay me for all stuff that was broke. I had a weight bench that is not fully functional, weights that are missing because they took the weights out of the crate that I placed them in. They kept my brand new container which cost me almost $50.
AVOID THIS BUSINESS AT ALL COSTS. I paid Carey Moving & Storage to pack and move my belongings from Asheville to Raleigh, NC. I signed the agreement before the move in which they said they would repair or replace damaged items. (A moving company I used previously had a similar agreement which they stood behind and I was very pleased with their services. I thought Carey would do the same.
READ THIS BEFORE DOING BUSINESS WITH CAREY MOVING & STORAGE/ALLIED VAN LINES. Carey Moving & Storage/Allied Van Lines has been the worst moving company we have ever hired! The cost of our move from NC to FL was $5,119.41 which included additional liability insurance that we purchased in the event our furniture was lost, damaged or stolen. During the move our expensive, quality wood bookcases were badly damaged. Their settlement offer for the damaged furniture was $925.00, not nearly enough.
I have moved across the country 3 times in the past 6 years. Carey Moving and Storage provided poor service from the beginning. We moved over 16,000 pounds each time. No one came out to inspect what services would need to be provided, nor did they ask. We communicated that we had moved 18 months previously and that much of our belongings had not been unpacked. 5 people arrived to pack us with anticipation of over 3oo boxes(and much profit) to be done. Instead 11 boxes were packed.
Today, my husband and I spent almost $2000 to have the contents of a 1,350 square foot rental house moved less than 1 mile into our newly purchased house. Tonight, right now, my 5 children are sleeping on the floor because their beds are completely non-functional. Some are damaged so badly that we will most likely not be able to repair them. All 3 sets of bunks were purchased just 4 months ago and in great condition this morning.

In their own words
"I recently hired Carey Moving & Storage of Asheville for my recent move, and I couldn't be happier with their service! From the moment I contacted them, their team was incredibly professional and responsive. They provided a clear estimate and were transparent about all costs involved. On moving day, the crew arrived on time and worked efficiently. They handled my belongings with great care, ensuring everything was packed securely.
Thank you, Andre! We're glad to hear you had such a positive experience with our team, and we appreciate your kind words about their professionalism and care. Your satisfaction means a lot to us!
I can’t recommend Carey Moving and Storage Asheville highly enough! They handled my recent PCS move with outstanding professionalism, care, and efficiency. Every member of the team went above and beyond to ensure a smooth transition. Richard and Shawn took extra time and care when packaging my prized guitars — their attention to detail and respect for fragile items gave me real peace of mind.
Thank you, Michael, for your wonderful feedback! We're delighted to hear that Richard, Shawn, Nathan, and Chuck made your move such a positive experience. Your appreciation means a lot to us, and we’re grateful to have had the opportunity to assist you.
Justin Schott from Cary Moving and Storage did what all the drivers from Charlotte (Berger Transfer and Storage with Allied) were afraid to do - drive up a mountain road to deliver our furnishing. Three times the Berger driver, Gary Hamlin, and his associates sent from Charlotte to help him shuttle the goods up the hill said they would do the delivery only to change their story each time and decline to go up the hill. They were obviously afraid of the road.
We first received an estimate by a very friendly and knowledgeable representative. Pointed out tips for a more efficient move and ways to save in costs. Afterwards, we made the appointment for the move and as we wanted to pack a few things ourselves the staff had boxes and packing materials ready for us at the warehouse. Come moving day, the truck arrived on time and the crew introduced themselves, promptly going to work. Immediately, you recognize their skill and organization.
