Clear Lake Movers, Inc

I work in an apartment leasing office and highly encourage the use of local businesses but David (the owner and representative) manages to ruin the reputation that local businesses work so hard to earn. I've seen Clear Lake Movers provide bad service to mutual customers over and over again. It's an issue that most apartment complexes are starting to realize. Unaware of their bad reputation, my sister hired Clear Lake Movers over the weekend to help load for 4 hours.

Stole $85,000 of my personal jewelry. Some of what was past down in the family. Frames and pictures from expensive painting were broken. Do NOT use Clear Lake Movers if you value your belongings.

My brand new mattress was badly damaged during the move. It sustained two tears and staining where the movers obviously did not protect it and slid it actors a dirty truck bed. I called the company and was told by the receptionist that this was more than likely not going to be covered even though there’s a 15% surcharge for insurance that you have to pay. Receptionist said she would reach out to the owner and call me back.

My mom passed away recently, and my dad needed to move into an independent living facility. My sister called Clear Lake Movers, and the owner immediately mentioned that he knew of my dad. He talked with her for several minutes, asking about the amount of items we had to move to the new facility. Although he didn’t see our furniture in person, he gave her an “estimate“ of the time/hours that he anticipated it would take three men to move ONE truck load of furniture from my dad’s home to his retirement facility…

1 star is being nice, I wouldn’t give them any stars. We’ve used CLM 3 times & third time was not good. We agreed per contract for 3 men & truck they showed up with 4. At the very end of our move before moving the last items in they got me with we brought a 4th guy can you pay? Shocked/surprised we spoke with office and they were willing to offer a discount. The lead guy was in tears literally in tears and we felt bad so we paid the amount. This had scammed written all over it.

I paid for a two hour minimum move and we were at the storage unit within 45 mins since there wasn’t a lot to move. When we arrived the lift broke at the storage unit and I asked the movers to wait as the storage staff was going to move me to another unit downstairs. After being gone for 5 mins, I got back to the unit and the team had disregarded me asking them to wait and carried everything up the stairs instead.

They were fast but they weren't as careful. We moved a one bedroom into a 2 bedroom within the same complex. It took them two hours to do most of the unit but not finish it. The entire time the movers were talking about us in Spanish not realizing we understood them. They complained about how much stuff we had, about how heavy a few of the items were, and about some dog hair that was around the apartment. They also broke two pieces of furniture and didn't tell us: a library cart and a bookshelf.

Horrible experience. My walk thru quote was $800 and my final bill was $3,600. HUGE difference! That included $570 for using a credit card! I would have paid cash/check glad I known beforehand. I called and complained several times and only was told “we will give you 10% off your next move”. No thank you, I will never use this company again!!! They sent 6 men for 3BR, 2 Living rooms, dining and office. I had everything packed/labeled in boxes. And had No garage items and no outdoor furniture.
