College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving Austin

Oh man. This company is hit or miss. I once had Tyler and Arno come and move me into my first Austin apartment and they were awesome! I thought I'd go with a known quantity and book with them again for my second move. BIG MISTAKE! It started with Travis and his associate getting stuck in a stairwell. I lost 30 minutes of move time trying to find them. I had left explicit instructions on where to park, but they ignored it.

IN SHORT: this College Hunks team was completely incompetent, had no regard for my time, and displayed an obvious lack of work-ethic. STEER CLEAR especially if someone named Ash is assigned to lead your move. This was the worst moving experience I've ever had, and I've used a handful of moving companies including CH.

I was quoted $300 over the phone and when the movers arrived they assessed the items and said it would take approximately 3.5 hours for $600 something, I was a bit shocked but could manage. My roommate was curious if they could add his room and we were told it would take 4-4.5 hours which he would cover. Almost 7 hours later with a quote over $900 we just did not have the money in our budget. The manager or owner said if the service wasn’t paid for they would file a police report for stolen services.

I hired College Hunks Moving to move our home on June23 2023. I specifically asked if they had insurance to cover the move since I would be moving several expensive items. I was assured that they were fully covered and I had absolutely nothing to worry about. They did not bring an appliance dolly to move any of the big heavy appliances. They also did not really work as a team to move anything. Damage 1 I came outside to find my refrigerator dropped on its side.

I recently used College Hunks for a move (after using them previously) and was quoted a timeline/price range. The move ended up being double to triple the quoted time and price. I was severely disappointed and wanted to discuss with the company further. I have made multiple calls and sent multiple emails in attempt to resolve my concerns. The Company has made zero effort to reach back out to me. Although the movers were nice, doubling or tripling the time/price range is ridiculous.

Move took almost 10 hours rather than the 6 quoted for a two bedroom apartment. Part of the reason was it took 4 hours to disassemble and reassemble my bed (pretty standard bed). I ended up having to finish it at which point I realized it was not as complicated as the time it was taking made it seem. As a result, I spent something like $500 getting my bed assembled. I called the help line and was told the local office would call me back to discuss bc it didn’t make sense. Never heard back.

This is an efficient service - but beware $$$ I think I paid for convenience and I regret not looking for alternatives. The quotes online are NOT what you’ll get day-of. I was going by the range I’d been given online and the guy arrived with a clipboard of prices and then hiked up the price bc of the fact mine was a sleeper and due to “inflation”. Make no mistake, they are extremely nice and friendly. They’ll show up on time. They’ll give courtesy calls when they’re on their way.

We had a horrible experience with College Hunks. We had a very simple request, booked a month in advance, to have junk removal alongside moving labor to have two rooms worth of furniture switched. They completed the junk removal and repeatedly informed us a second team would show up to complete the moving labor. Apparently they closed out our job without completing our agreed upon services.
