First-Rate Moving & Storage

We hired this company for a large 1-day move on 9/17/25. The quoting process was timely and no issues. Friendly process and felt like all would go well. Pricing seemed fair and they were offering a discount at the time if we booked – so we did. We didn’t hire them to move 100% of our things, that was noted during quoting process. Move week, they requested to come in day before to stage items to prep. Two movers came and moved boxes that were ready into garage.

I thought I already left a review, but I guess I didn’t. I hired this company a year ago to help me move all my stuff. They were the cheapest option in the area (You get what you pay for). Before they came they asked me what I wanted moved so they can be ready when they get there. I had to explain it to them again when they got there, and one of them didn’t even speak English so it was hard to work with him with the language barrier.

I would NOT recommend First Rate Movers! I moved from New Hampshire to Virginia with the First Rate Movers and Storage last summer and Jay drove one truck himself and another truck with only one employee—just two people. He told us he'll have 5-6 people with our move. Then he used local movers who couldn't speak English, couldn't read the box labels so put the boxes anywhere in the house! I had to direct them where to place each piece of furniture!

I never been so disappointed with my move... Jason and his team made my move as a nightmare. I had a move from state to state and my furniture and boxes are ruined. Furniture was poorly packed, they used a little bit of shrink wrap and that’s it. No blankets at all. All my pieces are scratched, all the boxes are smashed. My glass top for the table just going to the garbage... Its a thin, expensive glass and now it got a crack from side to side , can’t use it no more.

Shockingly bad experience with these guys. So far we've identified about $4000 worth of damage from this move (and still counting). They did not do the job the way we agreed, and failed to do the job that they did try to do in the time they were supposed to. They did not take care to protect floors, even after being asked to do so (repeatedly). A week after the move, we're still cataloging the damaged floors, furniture, stairs, mishandled food and other temperature sensitive items, and so on.

Called them for a small two. Bedroom move they make it seem like they are low cost when In reality they’re expensive. Keep in mind my distance was only ten Miles 1300 dollars. For 3 hours of work you all do the math. In response to your reply. Your company is overpriced and you can’t change my. Yes you talk to the customer like they are gonna get a deal. 45 minutes late to move a hottub, holding up the seller. 3 guys to move a 900 lb tub. Couldn't lift it at first and then they were going to use a dolly over blankets on the sellers lawn. Damaged the side trying to move it. No remorse whatsoever. Don't use these guys for hottub relocations. Price was outrageous anyway. Found a new company with better equipment for half the price.

Did not follow instructions on the quoted price, they damaged and refused to pay for items that were damaged, they took stuff that was supposed to be put in the trash trailer with my new belongings for personal use and soiled all my …
