Great Nation Moving

Google reminded me of this review and so I have to update it for the second time I used this moving company. The quality really dropped. First, the communication was very poor. They told me I would originally get a range of dates when my things would be picked up/dropped off but then once it was closer to the date I would have notice of when the specific date was. They then tried to give me less than 24 hours notice, which I couldn't make work and so had to push back on.

Their salesman, Scott, vastly underestimated the volume/cost of the move from SC to NC. Truck showed up 6 hours late to pack. Only worked till 6:00 p.m. because they ran out of packing material. They packed until 11:30 p.m. the next day, and we had to drive from SC to NC that night. Truck arrived NC at 1:00 the next day, and unpacked till 10:00 p.m. that night. Those delays made this experience terrible, and caused us to miss a personal family experience.

I'm so upset with this company that they're not even worth the words I'm writing and that's very hard to say when I usually look for something positive to include in a review. To save time and energy, PLEASE READ the customer review below from Susan. Her experience is identical to the one received by my elderly parents. My folks moved from Virginia to Orlando. The staff was friendly enough when it came to organizing and estimating. Upon arrival, the employees worked hard and fast.

We moved in December 2022 and it has been a mess. Great Nation showed up to pack us and said thier truck was too small. This was after thier estimator had been to our house twice to confirm the size of the move. I had to pay another $5,000 on the spot to complete the move and go to settlement on our house. Packing was chaos and many items were packed that should not have been. Boxes were not labeled by contents or not at all. Unloading was even worse.

AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. They’re dishonest and engage in predatory business practices. We had a MAXIMUM BINDING moving estimate. They showed up and packed up all our stuff on day 1. On day 2, they loaded up most of our stuff on trucks then informed us that we’d need to fork out another $6,000.00 because they missed the estimate by 50% of the cubic footage. 50%!!!! This is completely against the law since they’d already started work on the move.

I had a terrible experience with Great Nation Moving. We were relocating our belongings from Maryland to a long-distance location. They initially provided an estimate, but once they had our belongings, they drastically increased the price by $3,000–$4,000. This was completely unfair and dishonest. Not only did they change the price, but they were also not on time. Our items were not delivered as scheduled, and the final cost was far from what they originally estimated—both in terms of price and timeline.

Well, here's the thing ... The loading crew in MD were very good ... Our belongings were in temperate storage for 9 months, while we were waiting for our home to be built ... The delivery crew left a whole lot to be desired ... 2 actual employees showed up with a couple of "looking for work" guys from Miami ... The 2 street hires did all the carrying of the boxes into garage ... Although I tried to instruct them to put heavier boxes down first, with lighter boxes on top, they just kept doing quite the opposite ...

I hired Great Nation Moving based on a personal estimate from the owner, who assured me I would have a dedicated truck and that my move would be handled with care from start to finish. Unfortunately, that promise fell apart quickly. When the movers arrived in Maryland, they were excellent – professional, courteous, and careful. The same driver later delivered my belongings in Florida, and he was a great guy who clearly cared about doing a good job. However, the rest of the crew in Florida was a different story.
