Move Central Movers Oakland

This company is very misleading. I set up a Move 3 weeks before my move date to ensure everything would go smoothly. I ensured them that I did not want any surprises in cost or estimates. I spoke with representative on the phone quite often asking them if they had everything they needed from me including deposits. They ensured up until the day before my move to confirm everything.

I had an absolutely terrible experience with Move Central Movers. I was originally quoted around $1,000 for my move, but they ended up charging $2,200 to my credit card without my permission. The movers themselves were extremely unprofessional—one was a young man, and the other was older. They moved at a snail’s pace, carrying one chair at a time, which was completely unnecessary. I had moved this exact same furniture five years ago with a different company, and it only took two hours.

Although the movers themselves did an okay job, there was a major disconnect with communicating the price. I received a quote and then when it came time to pay, I was told to move would cost me over twice as much. I also confirmed that I would not be charged for the time it would take for them to drive from their facility to my storage units and that was confirmed that I would not be charged until they arrived on site at my storage units but when it came time to pay at the end of that day change, they did charge…

Their moving fees by the hour is above the market but I chose this company due to the ability to move and store my belongings collectively for a reasonable price (Oakland to SF). The movers were just ok, nice but not the most efficient not the slowest. They stored my things and when I went to retrieve them (3 boxes) they told me they only have two recorded and there is no third and that I wasn’t missing anything. I was missing my large furniture, drawer of jewelry, half of my couch, etc.

Our quote said $452 for 3 hour minimum. They put a preauthorization on my card the morning of for over a thousand dollars. When I called them they don't answer their phones, called back an hour later to the wrong number, and tried to tell me quote stated they would put a hold on 6 hours. Which, it doesn't and still wouldn't amount to what they held. It took them 6 hours just to load the truck for a 750 square foot apartment because they didn't use the freight elevator or move more than one item at a time.

Again w/ these mofos. They're nice on phone. (Period) I, on the other hand; am not always. Sunday 2/2/25 I received an email saying Move Central sold to another moving & storage company. I called the other place. My unit is paid thru mid Feb. I cant go remove my belongings from where it's stored in Oakland. They've already moved the units from Oakland to Union City. No heads up.

I am writing this almost 3 years after Move Central Oakland charged me 3 TIMES THE ESTIMATED AMOUNT. If you are reading this: DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY. Please look at other companies. You can read several accounts of them charging way more than they estimate here. These 5 star reviews are extremely questionable in validity. Since they did this to me, I occasionally visit their reviews to make sure everyone knows what this company does.

I would never use this company again. Their sales department say one thing on the phone and then I was charged more than was agreed to on the phone at the time of the move. They also did not explain all the fees for storage over the phone. It was my fault for not reading all the fine print in the contract so just know you cannot trust your phone conversations and make sure to read all the details within the contract.
