Royal Alaskan Movers

My experience is very similar to the previous reviewer only my move started with Royal Alaskan. First let me start that this move cost me more, 16% more with 49% less household goods than I brought to Alaska and I packed many items myself. First, I was contacted by someone who was new to the company who had never dealt with shipping a car or crating an oil painting. When I called the company facilitating my move, Royal Alaskan sent out another person. I tried to change moving companies but could not.

I do not recommend Royal Alaskan Movers. As another review stated, options are limited when moving to/from Alaska, so we deal with that. With that being said, my husband and I moved from Dallas to Anchorage in January. Royal Alaskan Movers were fairly professional working with us when we were searching for a moving company. We had scheduled a date for pickup with Royal Alaskan Movers, and as they did not have their own truck or people in Dallas, they outsourced. The problems began at this point. 1.

I worked with Royal Alaskan Movers over a period of time to receive a quote to move from Alaska to the lower 48. after a couple of quotes, I had several repeated questions to verify what was included in crating, how they shipped and clarification on the insurance in several emails and phone messages because I did not want huge surprise charges after the fact, but my questions kept getting ignored.

I hired them to move from Anchorage to Wasilla. Everything seemed great at first when I called. We set up a time for a zoom meeting so I could walk them through everything that needed to be moved in my house, got a quote, and set up a moving date. I was really happy at that point with the company. The day before the move, I called the company asking what time they would be showing up the following day as I had not received a courtesy call.

They were my movers bc they were the cheapest bid for the military contract. It’s been two months and they haven’t uploaded the reweigh tickets so I can be paid for my personal move weight. They also damaged my balcony pulling my heavy couch up over it and thought I didn’t see it. I was recording the whole thing bc I thought they’d drop the couch. Couch was fine, balcony not. Afterwards the covered it with heavy packing paper.

Started off pretty good, got a very reasonable estimate and seamed very professional. A team of guys showed up at the house and started packing up our stuff. Once they left was probably the end of the professionalism. We never got much for updates and response to emails. Until it came time to pay the bill, they responded much faster. The bill was about $700 more than the estimate. The bill I was told several times included reassembly of anything that was taken apart in the moved which did not happen.

A company with 25 years experience should label things when they wrap them, especially for people who are putting some of their stuff in storage. It only takes a second! A company with 25 years experience should call their customers back… communication was awful. A company with 25 years experience should make payment easier and not charge 3% to use their debit or credit card and demand payment a week before you receive your stuff!

We've had movers 5 times. This was not even close to the least professional of those. I know things happen moving but this was a lot of easily preventable things like dragging a mattress on pavement when the box was broken so the actual mattress is black on 2 sides. That's not something insurance covers or can do anything about. That's just one of a dozen similar examples. As well as complaining about taking some boxes to the second floor of the shop. That's where they go and we paid the full move price.
