In their own words
I moved from Pompano Beach FL using Smith -Dray lines in March 2021. My contents went into storage and was delivered in June of 2021 to Hendersonville NC. I have made 7 professional moves associated with an executive relocation. I have never had such an incompetent move. Furniture that was in perfect condition arrived scraped, scratched, gouged and missing pieces. Art work was put wire back to the front of the frame with no paper or padding in between.
We apologize for your bad experience. We continuously strive to improve our service and offer comfortable moving experience for our customers.
I hired and Atlas dealer to move me from Tampa to North Carolina. Atlas uses subcontractors, the crew they hired pushed a heavy dresser across the hardwood floor with no protection. Despite a professional estimate of $2000, and extensive dealings with Atlas corporate, they refuse to pay for repairs because they subcontracted the job. The subcontractor is unresponsive. Use another carrier, you have no recourse if something goes wrong, Atlas will not take responsibility.
As a retired executive from a Fortune 500 company I was relocated no less than 7 times during my career. Moving can be a very stressful event but my wife and I became accustomed to having our prized possessions handled with superior care. Over our 42 years of marriage we have been fortunate to inherit irreplaceable family heirlooms that we dearly love and cherish. When I first met Sarah from Smith Dray (AshevilleCandler office) she assured me that our move would be handled by one of their two very best drivers.
I am so sorry to hear about the damages you incurred on your move to FL. In speaking with my salesperson who handled your move, I understand that we delivered you into a mini storage unit in Fl, and that you had another local mover take you out of that mini storage to your new home.
Poor service, understaffed, HORRIBLE management. The lead mover on the crew complained the entire time about everything and was argumentative - VERY unprofessional. They failed to crate large, important items, such as a marble table (which broke), king mattress (which they folded over and tied like a sandwich), family heirlooms (which were damaged) and so forth.
I still remember this company, after four years, as being the worst move of my life! (This after 14 military and government moves!) It was traumatic. The move came in two shipments with items lost. The local hire appeared to be under the influence, and was brought Into my new home by the driver. Working with their staff after the move was frustrating and agonizing. So much so, I’m finally writing a review four years later. I really hope they cleaned up their act, but beware!

In their own words
The team who came to our home to move us were professional and meticulous with our belongings which meant a lot to us as you cannot put a price tag on keepsakes, family heirlooms, and memories. We were particularly worried about our Yamaha Disklavier baby grand as it is a beautiful black player/recorder piano and moving can be tricky with those big pianos! Travis, Tad, Gary, and Logan treated our piano as if it were their own right down to packaging the music in preparation to move!
Thanks Beverly!
Smith Dray Line was one of 2 movers that I had "interviewed" to move my deceased mother's items from Asheville, NC to Elmira, NY. I was very impressed with the level of detail provided to me by Sarah Gurley as well as her compassion over my recent loss. While the quotes were pretty close, I chose to go with Sarah and her team based on her level of comfort and experience. I was not disappointed!! The packers came in and were very patient with me as I went through years of memories and yes, junk.
We moved from near Asheville to Raleigh Oct. 1, 2020. I will have to brag on the moving team we had with Smith Dray. Mark Poteat was the BEST, and his team of Christie & Tad, along with Bella who helped pack, just made this a terrific move. I have never seen such amazing work ethic and energy! They were all such fun to get to know and easy to work with. I actually missed them after spending nearly three full days with them! As I unpacked, I could just feel the care that Christie put nto packing my items.
Thanks for the great review Sherman!
Excellent experience moving with Smith Dray. Office staff was helpful and prompt with my questions and the moving team, Akia and Bruce, were professional and courteous. I will absolutely use Smith Dray for my next move.
Thanks for the kind words, Cary! Glad to hear you had an excellent moving experience with us. Wishing you much happiness in your new space.
