The rating breakdown
8 of the 44 ratings in Google’s published star breakdown for Sourdough Transfer are one or two star.
Worked out from 44 ratings. That is enough to publish but few enough that one more review moves it noticeably, so read it as a hint rather than a measurement.
Against other listings in Anchorage

In their own words
Dont let the military make you use this company. Multiple HHG items were stolen, mostly small things. They didn't put half of my small items on the inventory sheet. So one of the movers who packed my closet left my $300 benchmade as one of the last items to box which caught my eye. Then when my HHG were delivered to my new location my knife and other small items were missing. Also when you go to submit a lost/damage claim the military wont pay for it unless it's written on the inventory sheet.
Being a long time customer then moving out of state using this poor excuse for a professional business. I moved in with the boyfriend at the time then I paid for the same company to move my belongings back to Alaska after the ex . I told the owner in an email that The ex can no longer know anything about me or my move nor my belongings I have in THEIR storage facility and continue paying them for those belongings of mine to be stored there.
Sourdough Transfer managed to turn a simple 520 sq. ft. apartment move into an all-day circus of incompetence, laziness, and outright disrespect. I have moved multiple times — including military moves — and this was, without exaggeration, the most unprofessional experience I have ever had. The movers were scheduled for 8:00 AM. They didn’t arrive until almost 9:00 after calling to say they’d be “a bit late,” which apparently translates to nearly an hour behind schedule.
This was about a $500 moving job, but they broke $6,000 of my stuff. Hardly a great deal. Destroyed my antique barber chair, destroyed my climazon, damaged a chair. The climazon was behind the door and when they got ready to close the doors they discovered it there so the kid they had helping them picked it up and threw it onto the truck over the wall of my furniture utterly destroying it.
For a military move, was a great experience, until it came time to settle a claim. You will end up going back and forth with them as if they need to hold on to every penny possible, and will have no integrity for the settlement. Unfortunate, since before that we had a great interaction with everyone in the process.
Awful. Moved my husband after he finished serving in the military and delivered his things late and all the boxes were in shreds. None of his things were in their original boxes and some weren't in boxes at all. completely unacceptable
What satisfied customers point to
The same method, applied to the four and five star reviews. Most movers are praised for the same handful of things, so what is missing here is often as telling as what is present.

In their own words
I recently moved from Snoqualmie WA to Anchorage AK. I contacted 3 different moving companies, which all had similar quotes, but decided on Sourdough because of a recommendation from my realtor. From the moment I talked to Jane, the representative who answered my call, I knew they were going to be my choice. Their personalized service and true caring attitude made them stand out, the epitome of a truly Alaskan company.
My wife and I sought out bids from all the major companies in town. Sourdough was the most responsive, the quickest to come and do an in-home survey (which was quite accurate), and they also ended up being the least expensive. Obviously, we selected them. The two movers who packed our things were terrific - they arrived on time, were friendly, worked hard, and did a great job.
My family and I relocated from Anchorage to Vancouver, WA in June 2017. Knowing the move was coming up, I went online early, all the way back in August of 2016, to research moving options. Sourdough Transfer was one of the many companies I contacted to get an idea of what the cost would be. I found some companies that looked like they would be less expensive, but honestly the reviews of nightmare experiences some people experienced with the various companies were quite disturbing.
We had a very poor experience moving from western NY to Eagle River, AK using Vantage Movers who hired Bravo Moving. Bravo Moving contracted with Sourdough Transfer to unload a 40 ft conex with our household goods. Bravo Moving told them they had 2 hours to unload the conex while the driver waited (very unusual in our experience). Sourdough sent a crew of 6 guys (Jaelin, Chris, Brandon, Dennis, Dontehl and Pat) and they were amazing! They unloaded in just under 2 hours!
