In their own words
This service was terrible. My moving rep and sales rep communicated poorly through the entire process. Neither of them returned my calls or emails. The customer service line never answered on the weekends, despite the fact that they can do moves on the weekend and the moving rep is not available. There is no way to talk to the movers directly and the rep is consistently unavailable. They added fees and costs that weren't agreed upon but refused to bring my stuff until they were paid.
I wish I read the reviews before using this company to move from Florida to New Jersey. The worst experience I have ever had. They don't communicate whatsoever. You call the person handling each part of the move and it always went to voice mail. Send an email and no response. When you got lucky to get a hold of Customer Service you sometimes got an answer. We set up our move and gave them the dates on pickup and delivery. They said they would call a few days ahead to confirm pickup.
American Van Lines tried to bribe me not to write this review with $400, after spending over $10K to "move" with them. I've moved an average of every 3.5 years throughout my life. This was my first experience with American Van Lines and my last. -They almost sent half a truck for a 3,000 SqFt house. My wife called to confirm our pickup the week of the move and that's how they found out. It turned out that person quoting did everything incorrectly.
I reached out to American Van Line Movers on 9/16/24 about my move from MA to GAfor 11/8/24. I was communicating with a rep who put my quote together. I found out after many continual calls to their office that the movers would be coming on the 5th to pick up everything for the move. I was continuously asked if an 80ft truck could pull into my living are for the pick-up.
Our move with American Van Lines was one of the worst experiences we have ever had with a commercial business. We requested and were told our goods would be transported in a full size moving van with drop down partitions and our furniture would not be stacked. None of that ended up being true. On our move day we waited and waited for the truck to come. It never did and we received no communication from AVL. We finally gave up and called them and eventually learned that no one was coming.
I just had American Van lines move me in April. It was the worst move. The day before the move, they told me that they can’t find a driver then they called and said they will be there on a Friday. They didn’t show up till Saturday 1:30 in the Afternoon called me that morning and said that they are sending a sister company that was all a bunch of baloney. What they do is they take the job from a Florida office then they try to find a company in your state. They take it to a warehouse unload.
This was the worst moving experience we’ve ever had. We hired American Van Lines to move our household from Washington to Alabama because we trusted them to safely transport our belongings. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from beginning to end. Our pickup occurred later than originally scheduled, and our belongings were delivered well after the contractual delivery window. Throughout the process, communication was poor.
0 stars. If you value your time, peace of mind, or basic accountability — avoid American Van Lines. This company is a disaster from start to finish. They claim to provide a 24–48 hour pickup window, but only notified me less than 24 hours before arrival, forcing a scramble to be ready. Once my items were picked up, communication disappeared.

Overall, a great moving experience from start to finish! We recently used American Van Lines for a multifamily move from Florida to California and from the beginning sales experience we thought it was pretty good. A great price and flexible timeline. The driving team we dealt with was Ronald, Daniel and Leroy. The team arrived on time on the moving day and they handled everything with care and efficiency.
Wow—thank you for such a detailed and thoughtful review! We’re so glad to hear that Ronald, Daniel, and Leroy provided excellent service from Florida to California, even navigating rain and tough terrain with care and professionalism.
Updated Review: Previously I’d expressed concern regarding the estimation, on-site packing and delivery where costs appeared to escalate across the process. I also reference discrepancies between American Van Lines’ documents and those of the subcontractor. American Van Lines reached out to me quickly to hear of my experience in detail.
Fields, thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your insights and are committed to improving our processes. Please reach out directly so we can discuss your experience further and address any concerns.
