Cal’s Moving & Storage April 4th simple furniture move of 11 miles in SW Portland suburbs. Move was ground floor to ground floor with no stairs involved and was for a small amount of furniture and light boxes. Movers were on time courteous, helpful, and easy to work with. Pre move Jake tried to sell me insurance to cover damage to my stuff which surprised me since I would think that the moving charge I paid would include moving my stuff without damaging it.

Giving them 2 stars because the movers were great, but management and customer service were disappointing. Also, expect that whatever the estimator quotes you will be inaccurate. Even the movers mentioned that this happens frequently. There is clearly a training deficiency and a lack of communication across the organization. As someone who spent much of her professional career in hospitality, I can confidently say they do not handle customer concerns well.

My husband put in a 5 star review before we unpacked. Originally I gave them 3 stars explaining I hated giving them a less favorable review because the actual employees were great. Someone contacted me about my broken statues to see if a compromise could be made. After a few emails, I was told that I would receive a check in the mail for a small amount. More than two weeks later I have yet to receive a check. Attempting to pacify customers with promises you don't intend to keep is unprofessional and unethical.

I actually had written a five star review at first but this is an update. I hired them cause I had just had a baby and was unable to lift anything. I thought it was really odd they put everything on a truck because over the phone I asked for it to be walked over (I moved 30 feet into a bigger apartment). Not joking it’s about seven car spaces, so I didn’t wrap anything to be stacked. Everything was new including furniture. Almost everything is scuffed up.

My initial review on this company was positive however as I continued to work with the company and unpack my things, they REALLY dropped the ball. I expected a LOt more out of a company charging 20 grand. My new home wasn't ready when the truck arrived( not the moving companies fault) but one of the guys driving the truck had to be back immediately and so they unloaded the truck anyway. They weren't super helpful on problem solving that. A LOT of my stuff was broken too. A LOT.

The guy that returned my call seemed nice but all I needed was a refrigerator removed and it was going to cost me a fortune but besides the charge, they also require either $200 or $250 upfront to schedule a pickup. Which I thought was very strange. I’ve never had a company require a payment over the phone (especially such a large amount) prior to even coming out and seeing the job or doing any of the work. Nonetheless, ultimately turns out there was nothing wrong with my refrigerator.

Paid $300 in advance and confirmed with them on Monday about my move today. They said "I see you here in the system". My move was scheduled from 9:00am-9:30am but no one ever showed up. I had to call twice to get an answer. They told me they could not complete my move today because "We don't show you in the system". When I told them I confirmed with them on Monday they said, "Well, we got a new system and these things happen." When I asked for my money back they hung up on me.

Thought my move was going to be a good price so I chose this company over others and they ended up 3K more, didn’t pick up everything and I had to load it in my car (I’m 77 and on a fixed income), took an extra day to get me moved which screwed up my cleaning schedule of my old house and all though the boys were extremely nice and polite they were not very experienced even accounting for the 100 degree heat. They just charged me more and more for the extra time it took.
