College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving Arlington Heights

I waited to write this review to see if the situation would be resolved by the claim dept, but it's been months now and nothing happened. I moved back in July and hired College Hunks. It was a 4 people job but they only sent 3. They worked really hard but unfortunately a few items were damaged. I only complained about one - my 9 months old very expensive couch got a rip in the fabric even if it was completely wrapped. One of the movers took photos and told me that the office would contact me with options.

WARNING: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR YOUR MOVE! We hired College Hunks for a move on July 3rd, just six houses down on the same street. The movers negligence and lack of professionalism resulted in significant damage to our home and furniture. They hit and nicked walls and doors in both houses and dropped our dresser in the driveway (see photos). I have been in contact with them to address the damage and their response has been dismissive and unhelpful. Additionally, the were dishonest about their pricing.

After having a move arranged for 2 weeks, the crew was late to arrive. Manager called to reschedule the date because he had no crew available (someone called off). Manager was informed that it was not possible to reschedule the date due to other upcoming things that could not be changed. They scrounged up a 'crew' who arrived hours after the planned start time.

I've moved several times within Chicago over the past decade, and have never had such a horrendous moving experience. My move-out from a Jr 1-bed condo, in a building with an elevator, took nearly 5 hours. Every other move I've had has *finished* within 5 hours. The movers weren't briefly properly for move-out and didn't supply the correct items. I flagged that I have a 77" TV three separate times with their account team, and was assured the movers would provide a box to fit it.

Not sure how this company has such good reviews, if I could give no star I would. Let’s see, where to begin. I called to schedule a move and informed them of all the items I had to move from my condo to a house. The “movers” showed up and the first thing the kid says is I wasn’t told you had this much stuff. He then proceeds to start the “move”. About an hour or so in, he comes up to me and says they’re going to take a 15 min break. No big deal right? Well, 3 hours go by and they didn’t come back.

This is hands down the most stressful and expensive moving experience I’ve ever had and I’ve moved a lot. What was quoted as a four hour job at roughly 1400 dollars turned into a 12 hour nightmare that cost us $3300 plus a damaged 4000 dollar mattress. Neither we nor the movers were set up for success and yet we are the ones who’ve had to foot the bill due to College Hunks’ unprofessionalism. They sent two movers who were uninformed that there were a lot of stairs for both the move out and move in.

First, I want to start by saying the movers themselves were awesome—fast, efficient, and they did a great job. I have no complaints about the actual team that handled the move. The reason for my negative review is the poor scheduling, communication, and overall customer experience. My original move was scheduled for Saturday between 2–4 PM. Due to multiple call-offs on their end, no one showed up. Around 4:15 PM, I called to check on the status and was told an operations manager would call me back.

DO NOT USE I REPEAT DO NOT USE: We used their moving service to basically haul our larger furniture. So a sectional couch, entertainment set, two TV’s, a desk, and a bedroom set. Very simple very typical furniture move. We were told a week in advance they would arrive between 8 and 9 in the morning on the day we needed to move.
