New City Moving

Had my wife in tears. Without question, the worst moving experience I've ever had. The communication was awful. They were incredibly responsive and friendly while booking the job, then completely disappeared. The morning of our move, we were panicking because we had no idea if anyone was even coming. When they finally arrived, they were over two hours late and only brought about half the crew needed for the job! The crew was panic'd in a frenzy trying to do the job.

***TRIED TO CALL THE NUMBER THEY POSTED IN REPLY- “MAILBOX IS FULL”** 🙄 Extremely Disappointing – Not the Same New City Moving I scheduled my move (just 4 miles) three months in advance with New City Moving. I had used them five years ago and had a fantastic experience, which is why I chose them again. Unfortunately, this time was completely different—in the worst way. According to my receipts, it seems the move was actually handled by All My Sons Moving, a company with a 1.5-star rating on Yelp.

An unbelievable experience. Please all moving customers, heed this warning: This company schedules the move, but does not provide written proof that you booked the move. You have to call them to confirm, not just once, but multiple times. Yesterday, the day before our move, my fiancée calls to confirm the morning move that has been booked two weeks ago. He had asked for receipts of the deposit and no one responded.

Very disappointed with New City Moving’s packing standards. They pack extremely heavy items, especially kitchen contents, into oversized boxes that are unsafe and often impossible for one person to lift. Many of these boxes are overloaded far beyond reasonable moving standards, creating risk of injury and damaged items. Heavy dishes, glassware and dense kitchen items should never be packed into large boxes like this.

I have been a realtor in Chicago for 20 years. I have never written a bad review about a vendor until this post. I tried New City Movers for the first time with my personal property and these movers ruined my floors. They did not put any protective floor coverings down and they didn’t use any caution while moving my items. While trying to move my couch they scratched my wood floors in many areas causing significant damage. There were roughly seven areas that’s were badly damaged.

I would rather be homeless than schedule a move with them. Have moved across the US a few times and have dealt with movers who are large orgs to a family of 4 on craiglist. But never have I encountered such professional negligence. Scheduled a move with them 2 weeks in advance. Provided requisite details via phone and email, inventory lists, addresses, whatever else they needed. The day before I get a text saying "I better call or no movers will be sent".

Absolute trash. Arrived 7 hours late. The movers showed up with a truck that was too small for my move which lead to the movers spending 5 hours to pack up truck because they couldn’t fit everything. I ended up having to do 10+ trips myself because they couldn’t fit everything in the truck. The movers were kind and efficient but the dispatcher and customer service is AWFUL. I paid $3000.00 for a move down the street and had to do most of it myself.

I will never use New City Moving again. It was an absolutely horrible experience. No matter what concerns you raise, management seems to take the movers’ side over the customer’s. There are much better moving options out there, like Dolly, which is faster, more reliable, and more affordable. Edit: Management did reach out and apologized. They addressed my concerns, which I appreciated. Krystal was especially great…. her customer service really stood out.
