College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving South Denver

Some positives, lots of negatives. The only positive was that they didn’t damage the furniture being moved or anything in the house. The negatives are lengthy…(1) They ended up charging me more than the quote. The person whom I made the reservation with told me that there was a one-hour minimum, and I’d then be charged on a pro-rated basis for each 15 minutes thereafter. The movers spent 1.75 hours, but insisted that they have a 2-hour minimum, and charged me for a full 2 hours.

We had to have 1 old garage refrigerator removed. When they got here they quoted $329. On the phone, they estimated $99 with possible $75 appliance fee. We declined the removal. The two "kids" who arrived were rude. When I spoke with the South Denver manager, he said, "I don't know what you want me to say. You'll get the same quote from anyone else." I called 1800GOTJUNK...they hauled out ou fridge for $99 flat and the two gentlemen with them were friendly, personable, and professional.

Would NOT recommend! Bait and switch and then price gouge. Asked for a price to move and elliptical outside my door into my garage so there was no disposal fee no truck used, the gal on the phone quoted me $45 but said the movers needed to get there and they would quote. Movers arrived, quoted me $45 and I said yeah let's do it. There was another item to be moved out back so we went out back and the price was outrageous so I told them "no".

Stay away from these guys. Last month, I called to get an estimate on specific items. (2 queen mattresses and 2 couches (love seat/ 3 seater, no recliner or anything special). The guy over the phone specifically stated that they don’t charge for labor or time, only how much space my items will take on the truck. I accepted and jotted the numbers down. The next day, the movers arrived and charged for time/ labor and space. I ended up paying a bit more than double that was quoted.

I’m so disappointed in my experience with College Hunks Movers. I’ve used them in the past when I lived in San Diego and had a fantastic experience, but unfortunately, my move in Colorado was terrible. This was a very simple move — about seven large furniture items, all wrapped and ready to go, from one house to another. I’ve moved roughly 20 times in my life and have never had any furniture damaged — until now. The movers couldn’t get my dresser up the stairs.

Problems from the start. They took 4 hrs to move not even half my apartment. I went to the new place after speaking with them at my old place as they said I could go and they got it handled. I then got a call saying I needed to sign something they forgot. They arrived at the new place and then made me pay upfront. They also said there was an item limit. They left my tvs, bed frame, shelves, and more. The small living room table was broken on the inside somehow as well.

A 2-hour job that lasted longer than most geological eras (and cost a fortune) I am not saying the movers we hired from College Hunks were lacking in the advanced tactical problem-solving department, but if they were tasked with moving a cardboard box out of an open field, I suspect they would eventually conclude that the box was structurally fused to the Earth and suggest we build a new house around it.

I wanted to leave zero stars but not an option because they don’t deserve one! Most horrible experience we’ve had. We chose them to pack & move us & haul off junk because I have stage 4 cancer & my husband is disabled so we are incapable of doing this ourselves. They did not render the services I was quoted for. They didn’t complete the job & my disabled husband is still packing up & moving stuff today. Paid $5500 & was quoted $4875. They basically just threw whatever in the boxes including trash.
