In their own words
Initial interview - Based upon their stellar reviews on Yelp, and Justin’s on phone selling skills, we decided to go with Optimum Moving when transitioning our lives from NYC to LA. We passed up both much cheaper options, as well as full service groups that promised to take our items from start to finish, based upon Justin’s assurance that our items would be well cared for. We liked him, and decided to put our trust in him. WE WERE MISTAKEN!
Optimum Moving relocated me from Manhattan to Long Beach Island, NJ on 10/28. I received their estimate on 9/12, over 6 weeks prior to my move. I itemized the contents of my 2-bedroom apt. The list was made prior to my selling a bed, sofa, dining table, entry table (so on move day I had less furniture than I indicated). Based on the list, Dylan estimated 6 hours with 4 men. On 10/28, I had the freight elevator reserved and the team of 4 men arrived at 9am and prepped for 4 hours.
We chose to go with Optimum moving bc we heard they were a “family run” business and figured it would be better to supper them than one of the big wigs. We were very wrong. Positives - they showed up on time. Crew worked hard. Negatives - off the bat, told us it was going to take longer than we were told and would be charged for it, even though we had someone come physically come, take inventory, and give us a quote. It took them 45 minutes longer than us to get from A to B. What were they doing during that time?
UNSAFE DRIVERS! DON'T USE THIS COMPANY! On Sunday, June 1, 2025 at about 4:20 pm, one of their trucks was entering Route 3 East behind me at the Passaic Ave. – Nutley entrance. I was in front of him and trying to merge onto Rt. 3 when he came up behind me and advanced to the left of me, so as to completely block my view of oncoming traffic. Cars were speeding past and I could not merge blind and risk a deadly accident.
In this day and age people should learn that customer service is KEY...and can make and break a business. I called Optimum Moving and from the customer service call, it was nothing optimum about it! The representative was rude and not informative. Just based on that I write this review. The face/voice of the company is important! He was ONLY concerned with the $195.00 that it would cost me for them to come out before they even did anything not to mention the fact that they require a 3 hour minimum.
This company was terrible. Tom Richardson told me my stuff would only be a couple days behind me. I moved from Nebraska to Oregon. They were breach of contract, it showed up 33 days from pick up day. My washer & dryer both were damaged, scratches & dents. ½ of my coffees mugs were broken, glasses were broken, pampered chef pans were broken, Christmas decorations were broken, my hutch had some scraps on it. Every time I would call for an update they always told me they would find out & call me back.
I hired Optimum Moving company to move my apartment contents. Please don’t use them! They said they will start at 8 am and came at 9. They said they will send 4 movers and they were only 2 with the driver. They had to finish loading by noon and they finished at 1:15 pm. On the way to the destination they stopped for lunch and arrived at 2:45pm. The condo I am moving in has strict rules that they have to leave the building at 5pm.
If I could give this company a negative number of stars I absolutely would. We had contacted this company, someone came out to give us a price of what they would charge and I was told I would receive the proposal that evening. We had to keep contacting the guy to send It which he didn’t until the next day. We responded withina couple of hours and then he calls us back at the end of the day to tell us that they already reserved that day to someone else. No Courtesy phone call, nothing.
What satisfied customers point to
The same method, applied to the four and five star reviews. Most movers are praised for the same handful of things, so what is missing here is often as telling as what is present.

In their own words
Optimum Moving moved our family an hour away within NJ in November 2024. And I can’t say enough great things about the experience. To start I did extensive research on companies and had narrowed it down to four, then two. What ultimately made me choose Optimum was this competitive pricing. But also that when Larry came to our home to do the walkthrough estimate he was very informative and helpful giving us information about the company as well as moving in general.
We have moved a few times and we can finally say that this was a move that I can finally say was handled by professionals. From the owner to the foreman to the strongmen. The entire team from start to finish handled every detail with care. Properly boxed, wrapped, labeled. Efficient. Focused. Showed real teamwork. In and out. Interstate travel. Unpacked with same care and reassembled all. Amazingly they immediately found items I forgot to separate. Great experience. Fair price. Highly recommended.
Josh and crew went so far above and beyond our expectations it’s going to be hard to get it all noted here but I’ll try. First - the crew arrived 30 minutes early, ready to go!! This allowed them to beat some of the rainy weather that was forecast. Edgar and the guys did a full detailed walk through with us prior to starting the move taking note of changes that had been made since we initially booked them and also making careful notes as far as where each furniture item (anything not in a box) was to go once it…
I cannot recommend Optimum Moving highly enough! From start to finish, the entire team exceeded our expectations. Dylan, the salesman, did an excellent job helping us put together a detailed inventory list, making the planning process smooth and stress-free. His clear communication and thorough approach gave us confidence even before moving day. On the big day, Josh and his team were absolutely amazing. Despite harsh weather conditions and snow, they arrived on time and ready to work.
