Initial survey started out well. Tom Shetler did the survey himself. The day of the move.....not a good experience. Moving crew was horrible. Did not use the carpet protector, so we had to have the carpets cleaned again afterwards. Crew did not pay attention to what was being loaded on top of what. "Top Load Only" boxes had boxes of books and other heavy items on top. They seemed to be more interested in how quickly they could get the job done, not how well they could get the job done.

Unbelievably bad experience. Lost 14 (that’s right 14!) boxes of my possessions! Crew on the receiving end weren’t professional movers—they were vagrants hired on the cheap. One had a herniated disc and laid on the floor moaning every 5 minutes. One asked me if I had any meds to help with some pain he was having! I called the company bright and early the next morning and complained. Called and emailed multiple times. Their response was: the paperwork (that THEY filled out) didn’t support the missing items.

The moving crew was pretty good, but the guy who did the estimate was very wrong. He came and did an estimate for my apartment. He said 3 guys could pack and move everything in 2 days. I doubted this and called to see if they could come out and do another estimate. They said they trusted their guys. When the moving crew arrived they told me they would need extra guys and more time. All of this would cost extra money, above and beyond what I had budgeted.

WARNING!!!! WARNING!!! WARNING!!! We hire Shelter moving to relocate our most valued household items. From day one of the movers arriving we had issues. Movers complaining about the job being under bid and not having enough room on the truck to fit all of our things. A second truck had to be called in to accommodate the rest of our furniture including baby beds that needed to be at our new location for our children to sleep in.

Leaving a review in this manner is quite out of character, but necessary for future customers of Shetler Moving. Upon the moving crews arrival, I was informed that the way in which I packed the boxes was incorrect. Although this was frustrating, as no instructions were provided, I persisted in being helpful and listening to the crew leader in my home. That said, shortly after the box complaint, an overarching issue appeared.

With a rather last minute out-of-state move coming up, I reached out to two local moving companies to get quotes as well as see if they had availability on my preferred move date. I first contacted Shetler moving and waited several days for a response, only to be told no one could come give me an estimate for a week or so. The communication was lacking throughout the whole process.

Albuquerque branch WORST moving experience. Found out the company is going out of business in this town and I think they did things out of spite with our move. They broke many many things that are of sentimental value as well as other things. They also packed with no sense whatsoever. EVERY box was mis-marked with contents AND room! Rooms where mixed within same boxes.. Heavy stuff packed WITH Fragile light stuff..

1. We were loyal customers of Shetler Moving & Storage- we have moved 3 times in the last 8 years. We used them every time. 2. We used to live next door to the owner & adored he & his wife. 3. Family friends with the estimator - who truly was sorry for our experience 4. I am a real estate agent & refer Shetler on a regular basis. 5. We have never taken out extra insurance. Our experience has been good & it never warranted it. We were told the crew they had now was the best they have had in years.
