In their own words
I have moved around the British Columbia Province over 30 times. This is single-handedly the worst company I have ever worked with. First they lost our stuff to another Province and when it was returned, they didn't want to deliver it because it was too late in the evening, 6 p.m., I didn't have a team. I instructed them that I had my own team and would unload the truck and that I needed a bed to sleep on as I've been sleeping on the ground for a week.
One star. Read your invoice carefully. We moved from Vancouver Island to Calgary. The move itself went fine, and everyone was easy to deal with right up until the invoice arrived and I was charged PST. I raised it with the mover on the spot and told him PST shouldn’t apply. He insisted it did. I paid. I followed up with the office afterward and they confirmed I was right: the PST should never have been charged, and they said they’d refund the difference. That was the last straight answer I got.
Move from Victoria to Edmonton. The good... Reasonable price fast response and good to deal with. The bad..... Only items to arrive undamaged were ones I wrapped and padded myself. Delivery men were apologetic that they received my items not wrapped or covered. Cudos to them for being so responsible unloading. It was obviously apparent goods traveled or were stored unwrapped as edges on large items damaged. Some broken prices and a lot of cosmetic. Dresser drawer corners damaged from impact.
Beware of this dishonest company. Things MAY go fine, but you're playing with fire depending on which movers you get. If you're considering a move, do you REALLY want to take this chance? The movers who packed my items in Calgary were phenomenal, but the ones who unpacked in BC were careless, unprofessional, and damaged my furniture. The very first thing they did on arrival was collect my payment.
Having moved a number of times over the last twenty years, I shopped very carefully for a mover, but we really lucked out when we found these people. They were polite & helpful, extremely efficient during the move, and so careful with valuables. Can't imagine how they could have made the move out go more smoothly. I didn't think we could possibly have as good a crew on move in, since the original crew switched in Kelowna, but these folks were equally polite, helpful & efficient.
When they showed up to do my move, they advised me that they did not have room for all of my belongings. With 48 hours left to vacate my rental, I had to find another moving company to do a long-distance move with the rest of my stuff. My employer does reimbursements for moving expenses. That Guy Van Lines will not provide me a receipt for the amount I paid so I am now unable to get reimbursed from my employer. The belongings of mine that they did move made it from point A to point B on time and in one piece.
Movers themselves were amazing, loading side of the team was very careful and thorough. Bill and his team on unload side were wonderful. Engaging, empathetic and did a great job helping to get us all settled in our new home. Even made …
I’m still waiting for the refund, could you please respond to my emails and calls! You ask for deposit and no condition there that the deposit is non refundable!

In their own words
movers were prompt and polite, very accomodating and careful our quote included move to storage for two months then final move to our condo in langford. Quote was reasonable and service great good communication during quote process
Cannot recommend enough. Moved us from Vancouver back to Edmonton for under $2000. Factoring in what it would cost to rent a truck, fuel, time and effort, it would have cost nearly the same to move ourselves. The value with That Guy Van Lines is unbeatable. The fellas that helped us move were also great. They were careful with our things, some of it haphazardly packed, and nothing was damaged on the other end. One of their swampers didn't show in Vancouver, but they had another guy show up to help very quickly.
Used them to move and I can't recommend them enough. Their quote is exactly what you get, no hidden fees or changes. The moving crew were very polite and helpful and just good guys. Remember to tip them! Just know that whatever the quote is for is what you will get. So make sure you are very clear with how much stuff you have, or they may send a truck that's too small for your things. I like this because other moving companies charge by weight, and the norm is that you will be charged more than your quote.
We had a bad experience with a moving company that dropped the ball on an interprovincial move. Quality Movers picked up the ball and ran with it. They showed up on time, on short notice, with a full professional crew. They documented the condition of items as they went, and if something does go wrong (and it can, even with the best companyin the world), that kind of thoroughness is essential for a claim. Movers packed with care, handled all the furniture gently and wrapped/padded everything.
