Absolutely unacceptable experience. I picked up a U-Haul truck that was completely out of gas, which immediately forced me to pay out of pocket just to use the vehicle I was renting. I was explicitly told that I would be reimbursed if I returned it with fuel, so I did exactly that and dropped it off with more than half a gallon. Despite following their instructions and being assured reimbursement, I never got my money back.
This place is horrible! They gave me a defective truck and took no responsibility for problems with the vehicle. Their inattention and poor service delayed my move by a day and ended up costing me a lot of money. Many of my items were damaged or destroyed and they just said to call their insurance company. Go elsewhere--avoid this place!
Extremely disappointing customer service from a young female associate working at the front counter. When we asked for clarification about the rental price, return time, and what the insurance options covered, she repeatedly sighed, closed her eyes while speaking, and appeared dismissive. We were told that returning the truck within 24 hours or within 48 hours would cost the same, which was confusing, so we simply asked for the exact total price and basic insurance details.
Save yourself the time and avoid this place when you’re looking to install a hitch. They moved my reservation after being booked in advance. They person who does the hitch called out sick and they didn’t bother to call us to let us know. We were pushed out a week and we were assured by the store manager Eric Jones that they had experience with my vehicle model. I came to my reservation and I was told I would get pushed back another 4 hours.
During my visit at this U-Haul in Merced (Martin Luther king Jr Way) on 4/2/26 around 6-6:30, a staff member approached me, he was a man with a beard in his 40s . The customer service I received was extremely unprofessional. He was rude, dismissive, stumbling, and slurring his words. He appeared to be under the influence of some substance. As a customer, this made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe. I will take my money elsewhere and will not be returning back to this location.
Waited 15 mins for propane cause the sign says use the app and it’ll be faster. Someone finally walked out and told me they don’t have any people to refill propane. Not that they were out, just didn’t have a person to do it. All the signs say 7 days a week, fill faster by using the app, but there’s no one who can fill you. Make it make sense.

Made an appointment that made the process quick and easy. The gentleman who assisted me was professional. The trailer was ready, clean, and the after hours return was simple using the app.
The evening before I reserved a trailer online but it would not allow me to reserve it sooner than 1115AM. So the next morning U called the dealership on MLK and they immediately corrected the time and said trailer was available and that I could pick up the trailer immediately. Thanks again UHaul on MLK in Merced.
