United Prime Van Lines - Moving company

Do you like to be told your things will be delivered to you in 2-5 days only for them some of your things to arrive to you 4 weeks later? If so, this company is for you. Do you like to be charged an extra $1k at pick up for taking up more space, even though when they finally do arrive the truck is only 1/2 way loaded and they are missing 10% of your items? If so, this company is for you.

I’m 58 years old and this was by far the worst move of my entire life. When I got a quote from them, they said it would cost about $6000. A week before the move, I got a call from Felix, another person with the company calling to go over the quote again, which we did with FaceTime identifying everything in every room with great accuracy and he said the price would suddenly be $9000 and some change. Then the day of the move they started on a Friday showing up seven hours late.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ PLEASE READ BEFORE USING UNITED PRIME VAN LINES My husband is a government employee, and we have moved many times. I have never experienced dishonesty like this with any moving company. United Prime Van Lines does not disclose costs upfront. After my belongings were already picked up and in transit to New York City, I was told there would be an extra shuttle fee because they “cannot park trucks in NYC.” This was not clearly disclosed at booking and only came up at the last minute.

We hired United Prime Van Lines to move us across the country. The move involved several stages broken up by the movers into several trips. There were problems on every stage. We had many issues throughout the move. For example, the movers did not pick up our items within the contract window when we had to be out for our home closing. They did not show up until days after they were scheduled and outside of the contractual window.

Their insurance is non-existent, or rather we have no proof that they even have insurance or that it works. Their insurance website is covered in scam ads and looks very gimicky and only there for legal reasons. We tried setting up a QA appointment to get our items appraised for the value of the receiving the better insurance option, they never showed.

Do Not Use this company or allow any brokers to contract work to them! See the pictures of how they haphazardly packed my items. They'll cause thousands of dollars worth of damage and then limit you to $.60 per pound for recovery. If you experience this, Don't accept it; file a complaint with their cargo insurance carrier PMA insurance (policy #9233800). See my complaint with DOT as well: I was charged approximately $9800 for this move based on how many cubic square feet I used.

EXORIBANT PRICING, MISLEADING. We were given an initial estimate from a broker of $2,100 (a standard price to move a dorm room of furniture 214 miles). They booked United Prime Van Lines for our carrier who, on arrival, charged almost $2,000 more. Once United Prime Van Lines arrived (several hours late), we were given a new Total Binding Estimated Price of $3,087.76 after they saw the items -- almost $1,000 more.

Be warned. The initial sales person will make all sorts of empty guarantees: “We’ll be there every step of the way. We may be more expensive, but there will be no surprises—unlike less reputable companies.” When they don’t show, no one will answer the phone. They’ll tell you your furniture was larger than the “standard” you were quoted. Obviously you will need to pay more. They’ll upcharge you at every turn.
