Able Moving & Storage, Inc.

Let me first say that all of our things arrived within the provided arrival window and with very minimal damage to any of our things. They will return email but not necessarily phone calls in a timely manner. That being said here's my story... After a diligent search I selected Able Moving & Storage, Inc to move us from Alexandria, VA to Charleston, SC. Bob was excellent in providing us with an accurate estimate and cost of our move and offloaded our case to Stephanie, his assistant, for further interaction.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! I concur with Cynthia Leonard and Sara Devine’s comments. In addition to their experiences, ABLE now uses subcontractor movers (not even their own hires). Not one mover on my team of 3 could speak any English beyond a few basic words. This caused major problems as most items I did not want my belongings endlessly wrapped because this doubles the time (and thus cost) of the move.

This company has moved me several times but they aren't the company that they used to be. My recent move was the worst. Our estimate was significantly different than the actual cost. Our credit cards were charged without authorization. Everything we owned was damaged. Nothing was wrapped or covered properly. They charged 18 hours for a move that a previous Able Moving and Storage team and JK Moving did in 5 hours. They requested 4 storage units when 2 units would have provided sufficient space.

Cons: 1.) Movers arrived late which delayed our paperwork process with other house buyer. 2.) Movers damaged a few of our furniture (chair leg and lamp). 3.) Movers charged us extra for going over 15 mins even though they arrived late. Pros: Fairly priced.

This company moved me from California to Louisiana and broke 3-4 of my furniture items and lost a few boxes. Been sitting on my claim for almost 50 days now. Would never trust them again. The packers and movers were all very professional but the overall process to make claims after a move is baffling how long it takes. Edit: I provided the additional information on June 18th the same day I was asked for it. I never received any further contact after that day. I can provide the proof.

The Packers were thorough yet packed my meds, dog leash and other items I needed. Low rating because Movers took items that were to be left behind. They placed items in wrong rooms. They failed to put my furniture back together and pieces were scattered around my basement. They refused to come fix their mess . They wanted to charge me 3k extra over what I'd prepaid and accused me of adding items to the move. Actually my family helped me remove items from house after estimate. Seems like they owed me.

We packed 95 % of items. Many large tubs packed with our valuable designer clothing from Brasil and USA. They left our house a mess. Trash, water bottles, tape stuck to the floor. Scratches everywhere on the floor. My wife couldn't go to the new house during the move because she had to clean the house. Until 3am next day. At the new home it was a nightmare. Eleven people emptied two trucks in just several hours. Besides scratching the entire hardwood 1st floor and stairs. Filthy.

Shoukd I start with the fraudulent charges, the missing truck, or the broken family heirloom? I'm not sure if their estimator was just too inexperienced to accurately asses the time it would take to move us, or if the fact that the main truck disappeared for 2-3 hours (he was stuck in a parking lot??) caused them to miss their window of when they would finish by 2-3 hours (coincidence)? Then to find they double charged me, on two different dates.
