In their own words
I have never left a business review before but feel compelled to warn people against using this Company. We moved in August 2022 and at first we thought everything was going well. The foreman of the team was personable, they arrived with more men than they originally quoted us for, helping the move go more quickly. However, the foreman then told us that it is typical for homeowners to tip $100 per person. We happily tipped but this added $1200 to the bill.
Called these movers for a quote. The appraiser was prepared and well organized up front. That's where this story begins. Richard says he will provide the estimate the following day. Nothing. We called and left message and he provided the quote. The quote, pretty outlandish and disrespectful in the fact he quoted over $7000 for a instate move. Plus he added an additional $1300 charge for packing (which he was not to pack anything) lots of travel charges, truck charges, because he said we needed 3 trucks.
Upon my move from Atlanta to Smyrna, I was referred to Around the Town Moving & Storage from my realtor. Unfortunately this turned out to be the worst referral I’ve ever received. Around the Town for starters reported they had truck issues and arrived 4-6 hours late for the initial appointment. The move started decent from there (although 2 men showed up rather than the 3 promised). As it progressed it became pretty clear that this projected 4 hour job was taking much longer than it should.
First let me start by saying I have never posted a review however this was needed. This company is the worst professional business I have ever dealt with. They sent 3 guys and we were skeptical from the start because there was an older guy who looked tired from the start and moved like a turtle. My husband is very handy so he had everything broken down and all they had to do was move it. They arrived at 3:30 PM and did not leave until 12:30 AM.
Thank you for your review. For the record, our moving vans/trucks are 26ft long. If your move required 2 trips (the length of a tractor trailer), then that requires time. Even if you had gone with another company, the amount of contents you own is a commonality that will not change.
Absolutely horrible experience! They damaged a piece of my furniture, and tried to blame it on me saying it was because the dresser was too heavy claiming I still had items in it, which I did not. They also broke the rubber handle off of one of my chests, also claiming it was too heavy, but when I asked why he didn't have one of the other movers help him, he had no response. They also scratched the hardwood floors in my new unit.
Seraya, after speaking to my office staff and the owner, I have confirmed there have been no such complaints, emails or calls to our office regarding this matter. Are you sure you have the correct company?
EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. RATCHET OPERATIONS. MULTIPLE DAMAGES (see pictures). UNRESPONSIVE. This is the worst move I have ever experienced, and although I understand that "things happen ", what I cannot understand is how it has taken me months to get some kind of resolution for items damaged during my move. Their management is either unresponsive or shockingly defensive. MOVING DAY: I paid for 3 movers, but basically only got 2 until they sent a replacement a couple hours later.
STILL WAITING to hear back from them regarding the incurred damages. It is past the amount of time they said after filing the insurance. They have stopped returning our phone calls. It was very disappointing at how many things got damaged. They did send a very nice gentleman out to fix some of the wood items, but there are still several items that are damaged and cannot be fixed. We used this company to move from our house into an apartment.
Janet I apologize if the service received was not to your satisfaction. I would also like to thank you and your husband for utilizing our moving services 5 times from May 2015-Aug 2016 and storing with us for approximately the same amount of time. Your business is truly valued!
Run as far away as possible from this company. The move experience was horrendous and the claims process even more so. The movers showed up smelling of marijuana. After their "lunch" break, my friend found several empty drink bottles in my driveway. I told him it was ok I would pick them up and throw them away. The driveway had been blown off so that leaves would not be tracked into the house by the move so, the empty ice bag and Stella bottle cap were not pre-existing items.
What satisfied customers point to
The same method, applied to the four and five star reviews. Most movers are praised for the same handful of things, so what is missing here is often as telling as what is present.

In their own words
I have move 4 times in the last 10 years. While moving is both daunting and overwhelming, my experience with Around the Town Moving & Storage provided phenomenal customer service, reasonable pricing and great care with my belongings. Richard Matz, Sales Manager, was extremely helpful from the very beginning in assessing the size, transportation and manpower needed for my move.
Joshua, Taurean, and Donald were great. Very professional and kind. On time, careful and they even gave me great advice and tips on how to decorate because I couldn’t figure out where to put some of my things. Really cool guys! Great team work as well. I would defiantly use Around the town moving and storage again!!! From day one of contacting them for a quote, I got replies back very quickly. They have very competitive rates. I called twice to change the date and they had no problem and fit me right in....
Thank you for the wonderful feedback. Wishing you much happiness in your new place!
I reached out to Tim at Around the Town Movers a month in advance to schedule my move. Tim got me all squared away quickly and he even followed up with me a week before the move. The day of the move, Tim and his crew showed up on time and ready to work. The move my furniture down 3 flights of stairs and never complained. Then they had to load my things from a gargage I was using as storage and then take it to a storage facility that I rented.
This is a local family oriented very professional business. This family business is ran by Tim one of the managers within the family business and he was the poster child for professionalism. I am retired from the Air Force and also a retired federal government employee. In my 44 years working in these organizations, I have moved many times both overseas and stateside and I must say I would have to rate my 2 day experience with these organization within the top 3 moves that I ever made.
