I do not recommend this deceptive company. I literally had them move me to the end of the same block less than a mile and one of my glass shelves was destroyed. I had asked up front if something was damaged would it be replaced and I was told yes. At no point during this process did anyone explain to me that they would only cover $0.60 cents per pound for damages and that's not at all what it costs to replace my shelf, which leaves them free to be careless with your stuff because they don't have to replace any of…
We’ve used Athens Moving Experts multiple times and were always satisfied with their service—punctual, efficient, and professional. However, during our most recent move, one of the movers accidentally broke a light fixture at the home we were selling, just before the buyers were scheduled for their final walk-through. Accidents happen, and Athens initially told us they would cover $100 toward the damage.
Moving from Knoxville to Durham May 20-2I, 2026. I had a highly unsatisfactory experience with the management team at Athens moving. The movers arrived late, and there was inadequate communication regarding scheduling and estimated arrival times. Arrival was 1-2pm confirmed via email. Did not arrive until 4pm. No one communicated to the drivers the arrival time.
Dont be fooled by all of these "positive" reveiws. They probably have written them on themselves. Athens movers will milk the clock for every minute of time. There are also a ton of hidden charges that they tell you afterwards. Liars and cheats that nickle and dime you to the last penny. Beware. Use another moving company, there are plenty out there.
I would like to begin by thanking you for your feedback; although our positive reviews may seem too good to be true, I assure you that they are authentic reviews earned by our hardworking moving professionals.
Athens Moving Experts is very unprofessional, the workers are very weird and half of them are very rude there prices are very ridiculous I wouldn’t recommend this moving company to anybody at all… Run Run Run Away

UPDATE (July 2, 2026): After the branch manager officially refused my requests for a billing correction and told me the case was closed, I updated this review and filed a formal complaint with the North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC). Within 24 hours of filing the state complaint, the company completely reversed its "final" decision.
We used them last year to unload a 16 foot Penske truck. Yes, I waited this long to write a review. After all, they knew where we lived. The reason I am posting this now is I see that one of my neighbors on the Next Door App was looking for movers, and I wanted to warn him of our terrible experience. Then I realized it was more than time to talk about our ROTTEN experience with this company. Here you go: One of the movers was okay and reasonably polite. HOWEVER, the SECOND mover was TERRIBLE.

I had a phenomenal experience with the delivery end of the move. (My husband was there at the pick up.) When they arrived, everything was either wrapped in plastic and/or a blanket, that needed to be wrapped. (Outdoor furniture really doesn't need to be wrapped.) They moved a 300 lbs statue, but made sure it too was wrapped. 'Bull', Yusuf (I hope I spelled that correctly) and Colton were our movers.

Athens Moving experts did it again. they saved me thousands and time I’ve been using this company since 2018 to move my household stuff, but this week I needed to move my supermarket from Jersey to North Carolina and from the time we got on the phone with them to the time they unloaded all my stuff it was exactly 24 hours..

We used Athens for a move from Fuquay Varina to New York City. We purposely chose Athens (even against the recommendations of our new building’s superintendent who recommended a NYC-based mover because they were familiar with the building) as we have had a couple great experiences with Athens over the past few years. We trusted them…and they definitely exceeded our expectations! We are very happily repeat customers of Athens Moving with each move event going smoothly and with fantastic attitude.

This is now my third time moving with professional movers, and Athens Moving Experts was by far the best experience I've had thus far. We had a long move from North Carolina to Pennsylvania, and the team at Athens did a great job walking us through the process, getting us a reasonable quote, and helping us prepare.
