hired Born to Move to move my belongings from Chicago, IL to Michigan at the end of August, 2025.The experience was extremely unprofessional and caused financial loss and stress. Key issues: * Movers arrived one hour late with a rental truck, not a company truck. * Loading took 3.5 hours because they refused to use the freight elevator I had reserved, using the public one instead. * Delivery was supposed to be same-day, but the truck broke down.
If I could put 0 stars. I would. I chose Born to Move based a written quote from the company. Before booking, I was quoted approximately $480-$560 to move a single couch from Chicago to Madison at a rate of $160 per hour with a three-hour minimum. Their website advertised that the hourly rate included the truck, movers, gas, tolls, mileage, insurance, and furniture protection. Based on those representations, I reasonably believed transportation-related costs were already factored into the quoted estimate.
Damaged my multiple pieces of my furniture, then stopped responding after asking me to send in pictures. Accidents happen, but handling them this way is a choice. I will avoid at all costs in the future, and advise that you do the same.
Beware, most of these reviews aren't from real experiences. They are to push the negative reviews further down so you don't see the actual horrible experiences. Born to Move was the most unprofessional, fraudulent service that I've ever paid for. They were three hours late, stopped to talk and smoke while moving, then tried to scam me to pay twice as much before they finished moving at 10 pm. They never finished the move and left furniture at my old apartment.
Arrived 3.5 hours late. Start time was confirmed repeatedly over the phone and the move could happen only at a very specific time, so very disruptive and disappointing that they were not prepared to start at the agreed upon start time. They also severely inflated the “travel time,” which is tacked onto the move time as a separate cost from the actual time it takes to move (seems to cover the time they spend getting to you before the move even begins).
