Brooks Moving and Hauling

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! We hired Brooks to move from Jupiter to Hobe Sound. They gave us a cost estimate of $600. Their estimate showed "this is a full service move including packing materials". Their team moved extremely slow. When they arrived at the new house, they would not release our belongings until payment was made, and were now requesting over $1900, with a ton of overpriced materials we thought were free.

I was provided a quote for 4 guys for 6 hours. The guys showed up the day of the move and the foreman acted surprised that I had this much stuff. Literally everything was on the quote. He never introduced himself - although the other three who were actually doing the work did. He took one load down the elevator and I didn’t see him again for 3 hours. Meanwhile the other three worked hard to wrap my belongings. All my furniture was left sitting in the common area of the building obstructing a walkway.

Brooks Moving and Hauling moved me on Aug 30th, 2 buildings away, local move. It took several calls and emails for the insurance to be taken care of. I was charged $100 more than the estimate. All the packing was done, and there was no big furniture like bedroom, dining, living room etc. There were 3 men and a truck. Loading took forever, at one point I could not see where they had gone to, so walked over to the truck and saw 1 man there on his phone and did not see the other two.

I would strongly discourage anyone from using Brooks Moving Services. This was, without question, the worst moving experience I’ve ever had. We trusted this company to move our belongings into our brand-new home, and instead we were left with damaged furniture, unnecessary delays, and an astonishing level of unprofessionalism. The movers broke two separate pieces of our furniture due to careless handling.

I’ll start by saying the movers themselves were amazing. Seriously. Hardworking, polite, and fast. They deserve every compliment in the world. Shout out to David, Devan, and Anthony!!!! Five stars for them! You guys are awesome! This review isn’t about them. It’s about management. Specifically, one man named Thomas. Now, I’ve got some time while the movers finish unpacking, so I figured I’d use it to leave a little love letter for Thomas and his crew back at the office.

BUYER BEWARE… I hired this moving company because of all the great reviews. I felt like I had finally cracked the code with finding a quality moving company. Boy was I wrong. This company preys on vulnerable people who are in high stress transitional situations (ie moving) by price gouging their change orders and holding their customers’ belongings hostage to force payment. I will provide a full (long) review of the overall experience below but to cut to the chase – we got scammed out of approximately $2,500.

I had 3 companies quote me in person, and this one did not. Rates quoted for moving me two buildings away with no big furniture (bed, dining, living) were from $470-$560, and was guaranteed that the work could be done in two hours. The quote included truck, travel time and 2-3 men. However, I needed to move that Friday and they could not accommodate me.

DO NOT USE!!!!! The actual movers were wonderful! But, the actual office staff was atrocious! They misquoted my elderly mother. It was a long distance move from Coconut Creek to Orlando, they were supposed to have my mom's belongings that same day, then they said they wouldn't have time to do that same day and would have to do the following day.
