College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving Des Moines

This was the 3rd time I used College Hunks in the last year. This last time was on Wednesday, August 17th, and it was horrible. I called the office or their main line to inform them of the additional stop at the storage unit that morning. I was not informed of any additional fees. The storage unit was on its way to its destination. The items needed to be moved 8 miles. The items consisted of a King size mattress and box spring, and two dressers.

The movers were great! All 7 of them that had to show up a different times throughout the day because the organization of our move was terrible. They busted their tails and did everything in their power to satisfy us. Unfortunately the business owner does not appreciate these guys the way he should. Our move was quoted for 4 movers and 2 trucks and we started the day with 2 movers (one who was supposed to be working in the office but replaced a no show) and 1 truck.

Really wanted to use them as my movers but they scheduled my estimate and then I had to call because no one showed up and then they rescheduled it for the next day. The guy came at the agreed upon time and was very nice so was looking forward to choosing them as my moving company. He told me I should receive an email quote and never did. Called a few days later to request it again and they apologized and said they would send one. Still never got one so I called again and was ran through the same thing.

Using College Hunks for my move from San Antonio to Des Moines was a complete disaster. The movers managed to break or damage most of my brand-new furniture, and the worst part? They're refusing to take any responsibility for it. I've been trying to get in touch with someone for over a month now, but it's like talking to a brick wall – no response whatsoever. I won't be using their services again, and I strongly recommend considering another company for your moving needs.

Had an easy 1.4 mile move from a 3 bedroom to a 4 bedroom and decided to use this company. The movers were polite to me and my family but were relentless in complaining about their jobs throughout the day. We were told we would need 3 movers but 90% of the work was done by two of them as the third sat around which was frustrating considering you pay by the hour for each mover you have. They damaged my hardwood floor while moving a treadmill.

First off I would like to say that the guys that actually moved me were fantastic. They did a great job! I will not be using College Hunks ever again because of the way the estimate and the price of the move after everything was done. I was quoted a price to move my 1br apartment and everything was great. They told me the price for 2 hunks and the truck fee which was fine. When they guys got to my apartment there were 4 hunks and I didn't think anything of it.

We used these guys for an in-town move. They sent an estimator out to our house. He said the job would take 3-5 hours and recommended going with three or four movers. It’s more money for more movers, but he indicated the work gets done faster, so it evens out. Over the next several weeks, we actually moved about 30% of what was estimated to our new house ourselves to make the move easier on the crew.

The movers were fast, efficient and careful with our belongings. I have no complaints with their service, which was reasonably priced. (I do wish they would have worn masks as a courtesy, though.) However, they deeply scratched the LVP flooring in our brand new home while moving a treadmill. When I pointed it out, they acted like it wasn’t a big deal and didn’t apologize. I filed a damage claim the same day (Aug. 31, 2020) and it has been impossible since then.
