By far one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had to deal with. Everything started out great with the initial process. After everything had been packed up from cord I was notified that they would need more money in the tune of $5k otherwise they would not be able to deliver my stuff. When I asked why their exact words were we underbid the job. This was a corporate move and my company had already paid them in full. Mind you we did not go with the cheapest bid.
Moved from Washington to Illinois and this mover was a part of the package from my employer. My review is not for the move itself, which had some hicups and a few crushed boxes, but the communications from their employee Christy. A few days after the move I received an email from her that told me "The balance due for your portion is $XXXX.XX, please use the link below to pay or if you would rather call it in to me that is fine as well". No invoice, no list of what the charges were for.

My family and I have moved 4 times in 8 years, 3 times with moving companies. Cord was BY FAR THE WORST moving company I have ever experienced. It wasn’t the moving teams I had a bad experience with, it is everyone in Management and Logistics that have no accountability or communication skills. It started with the packing… the two guys didn’t pack all the items that were necessary to be packed and left it for the moving crew to do it and did a absolute terrible job of labeling so we have no idea what is in each…
Mr. DuBay, On behalf of our company, I apologize for being one (1) day late after being in storage for 57 days without your possessions. The agreed upon delivery window was 6/13-16. On June 9, we were able to determine that your move would deliver on 6/15-16.
Delivery delayed twice. When delivery did happen (due at 11am) it actually came at 6pm and took until midnight to unload. Several broken pieces of furniture (at least 5) and several broken packed glass items. At delivery, helpers could not handle our large pieces of furniture. No problem at origin. Did not complete furniture assembly due to late hour. We did moving and storage. Team at origination seemed competent. Furniture damages appear to be from packing of the truck for delivery.
We used them to store our belongings for 10 months and then move us to Florida from St. Louis. When our belongings arrived they were stained, dirty and some damage. We filed a claim for the damage and the claim was basically denied with the insinuation that we were scamming them. We paid $6500 to insure our belongings and their response was nothing short of an insult. Stay away from them

Update in response to owners response: they were all wearing Cord moving shirts. It was John and Darren. I forgot the other guy’s name. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY MY STUFF IS DESTROYED! And they will make you pay in cash to avoid paying taxes. A guy that works for this company came to my house and bought a dining room table from me. He asked who was moving me and I said I didn’t know yet. He said he could send a couple of guys out that week. The guys came out and the one guy started complaining immediately.
Ms . Hughes, we have no record of moving you or do we operate on a cash basis. There were no work orders, sales agreements, Cord crews or equipment that were assigned to move you on our schedule under your name or any other for the date(s) you allege Our company did not move you. Respectfully
The other less than stellar posts motivated me to share my experience with Cord Moving and Storage as a cautionary tale. I moved from MO to NJ, using the same company my parents did years ago and my sister only a handful of years prior. I was quoted in MO and signed my agreement with ease. Customer service with Cord Moving and Storage in MO was great and I was excited for the process to move along. In MO, they stored my items waiting for a driver to come to NJ and deliver.
Ms. Meluso, thank you for sharing your review and I want to apologize on behalf our team for a less-than-perfect move. Anytime something is damaged on one's move it is very frustrating for our customers. Our intention is always perfection. I did some research on your move and your claim.
I would NOT recommend Cord North American. We used them for a local move in August and had nothing but trouble with them. First, the insurance is a complete joke. You spend at least $500 either way you go (choosing the $250 deductible or $500 deductible). We chose $500 and sure enough, had damage that we then had to shell out money for. It’s like giving their crews free reign to damage your to property up to $500. Just what everyone wants to spend money on while in the middle of a move.

Super easy to work with; super professional; very careful to not damage belongings and homes during move, great communication during entire process. I used them on a recent interstate move, and they showed up on time, worked very efficiently and carefully, and delivered in an equally professional and timely manner at my new location with everything in great condition. My actual cost came in below the estimated maximum amount. Very pleased, and would highly recommend this company.

I have moved cross country now 4x in my life and I’ve done it several ways. I’ve also moved 14 times inside of the cities I was living in, and almost always hired movers. So I’ve met my fair share. This is the second time I’ve used a long haul full service firm and let me just say a. this is the way to go if you’re wanting to use long haul movers. Don’t use a broker. and b. go with Cord North American.

I was relocated by my company and I had been in my home for over 20 years. Cord Moving Company showed up and reviewed my home goods and was not fazed by anything I showed them. They just smiled and said no problem. Next, I was scheduled to pack my home goods on the first day and all the employees were a joy to work with. If I asked them to apply extra packing to something they did. It was not as if they were packing it wrong, but it just made me feel better. After that, the next day I was scheduled to load.
I have nothing but good things to say about Cord Moving and Storage! Carolyn was our move coordinator and she always returned phone calls and emails. She made the process much simpler and always was friendly and cheerful. We had a rather complicated move. Our things were picked up by Cord, placed into storage at Cord and several months later when we had purchased a new home in our new state, Cord arranged to bring everything to our new home.
Mr. Peters, Thank you so much for your kind compliments concerning our company, crew and Carolyn. On-time, On-Budget with no damage is our goal every time out the door. We do have an outstanding warehouse that is meticulously kept and we would expect nothing less than your furniture having no odor.
