In their own words
Three hours late and robbed us! Was scheduled to arrive at 9 am. I called the owner the day before to confirm the time, he stated that was correct. 9 am came and went. 10:30 am came and went. We are calling the owner at this time and receiving no answer. At around 11:15 am I finally receive a call from the movers stated they are 15 minutes away, they had to pick up one of the movers. 11:45 arrived, still no movers.
I apologize for the bad experience you had on your move. It was my fault(Owner) the movers were late that day. I was trying to help a friend and it was supposed to take just a few minutes. But, of course, it was longer.
I had a very bad experience with this company. I hope that I'm the exception. I had three major issues with this company and I'll address them each. (1) The movers broke off a piece of trim on the front porch of my old house that we had just listed. Very much an eyesore. They did end up fixing it, but it took 13 days to do so. That's the first 13 days on the market with a big chunk of the front missing.
Save your money and RUN! This is a nightmare of a moving experience. After a recent move with a company that damages property and is unprepared for a move that is subcontracted out from Purple heart Moving co. Refusing to bring items, damages to walls. I was just told by a Five Star rep that they have only received one negative review in six years. They may want to go back for accuracy. More to come....
I would not recommend this company for any service. They recently moved me into my new home. During the move they damaged my walls, broke my bed frame, and almost lost pieces of my furniture. I told the movers pieces were missing and they said to me the pieces were never there. I made the movers go back to the old location and the pieces were left outside. I was never told that they broke my bed.
We used 5 Star to move from Aiken to Beaufort SC. We had used them for a limited move of a few miles a few years ago and they did a good job. The move to Beaufort earlier this year was a nightmare. Items were "missing" upon delivery that we saw the movers take to the trucks; despite asking, a number of times, for the movers to completely dwrap upholstered, expensive furniture, the items were partially wrapped and were stained in the process, numerous furniture pieces were delivered with damaged legs; and beds and…
Five Star Moving offered a settlement. Mr. Call did not accept offer, Five Star offered a fair settlement based off of the insurance that is offered by the State of South Carolina which is .60 per lb. per item. I would also add that Mr. Call's was not recent.
Sadly the crew lead did not explain insurance options and rushed me to sign at the start of a busy move day during divorce. Once moved and settled, I found numerous high-end items thrown in boxes and broken. I also found jewelry and other tools stolen from my move. They packed me and therefore I couldn’t know where a crew of 5-6 guys were in a huge house. The owner Jody basically shared the moving industry was tough now and I didn’t have the right insurance. Nothing I said would move him to atone and make right.
I think this is a misrepresentation of how things transpired after the move. Let me say first, Five Star Moving moved Ms. Tripp over a year ago. If my memory serves correctly, Ms. Stewart(Tripp) wanted compensation well beyond the .60 per lb.
They were complaining from the get go and throughout. Huge under-estimation of our things and truck did not fit, although the owner is coming tomorrow to finish up moving things. Ignored several requests to wear shoe covers and got mud spots on our brand new carpet. All this led to a very stressful experience on top of moving stress. Our stuff was literally strewn everywhere instead neatly unloaded (except in 2 areas, to be fair).
After reviewing paperwork, Five Star Moving was contracted by Mr. Alkadour to move on April 10, 2021. An on site survey was done to determine the amount of furniture that was to be moved. After survey, Five Star Moving was contracted to move approximately 5,000 to 5,500 lbs. of furniture.
Hands down the worst moving experience we have ever had. With the amount of damage they did to our furniture, our home, and even our landscape it is incomprehensible that they call themselves professional movers. We have moved 13 times over the past 20 years and we have never had anything close to the destruction and blatant disregard for our property. And charging us $195 per hour to do so. Furniture was not wrapped properly unless we were standing over them and specifically requested.
What satisfied customers point to
The same method, applied to the four and five star reviews. Most movers are praised for the same handful of things, so what is missing here is often as telling as what is present.

In their own words
We moved in May 2020 and had an excellent experience. It was a short move - from one side of Aiken to the other, but it was a big move. We were moving from a two-story house, with A LOT of boxes of books and several big, fragile pieces, including a china cabinet. We moved into another two-story house, with a sharp turn on the stairs and relatively small internal doorways. But the crew handled it with great skill. We had not breakage or damage.
Thank you for your kind review!
Five Star Moving is excellent! They moved my personal possessions when I had a water leak in my living room quickly and very professionally. Last year they moved us to our new home in Florida. Their crew was professional and very responsive to what we needed. All items were treated as if they were their own. I highly recommend Five Star Moving!
Thanks. We strive to do an excellent job!!
Joel, Joe and Steve worked fast and efficiently which saved me money on this move. I had two heavy desks moved of which they wrapped and moved them like they were light as a feather. They didn’t demand being tipped but I was happy to do so when they got the whole move done in two hours. I would definitely use them again but hopefully I won’t need to for awhile. I would also recommend them to others. Three men is definitely the way to move things when time is of the essence. Jody was very helpful also.
You are too kind and we appreciate your review!
We have used 5 Star Moving two times recently and once several years ago. We would never think of using anyone else. Jody Dowdy and his crew have delivered top notch service each time. We used them to move our entire household several years back and it went without a hitch. We recently used them to load our household contents into storage pods while having renovations done. They returned after the work was completed and brought everything back in.
