I decided to use Flat Rate when I moved from NY to TX because, on paper, it sounded great: reasonable prices and the option to store my things until my new place was ready. What could possibly go wrong? I was a little concerned about their storage process, but I was repeatedly assured that getting my belongings delivered from storage would be simple and quick. Spoiler alert: absolutely nothing they told me turned out to be true.
If thinking about this company, probably best to stick with the more popular alternatives. Used FlatRate for six moves over the years and always recommended them, but this last one changed that. When things go smoothly, they’re fine, nothing outstanding, just an average moving company. But the moment something actually goes wrong, they disappear. Our move had broken items, mislabeled boxes, and poor coordination. We filed a detailed written complaint afterward and never got a single reply, not one.
We chose Flat Rate to do our long-distance move back to NYC since we had used them previously and the experience went okay. This time, our relocation consultant was often rude and condescending (rolling his eyes during a video evaluation of our apartment, would call me yelling in a way a grown man shouldn’t ever need to), but I don’t really care what he has going on or if he’s cranky as long as our belongings get moved (especially since we had a lot of changes we were making which is understandably frustrating) 24…

Such a bizarre experience with FlatRate. Ended up booking them over Otter despite slightly lower reviews as their price came in pretty competitive over what I was looking for. As soon as I booked/reserved a payment, it was as if I no longer existed. Couldn't get a single response from a rep and all I wanted to know was when my moving boxes would be delivered. I took this as a sign that, with the move and storage, the non-responsiveness would be a continued behavior that made me feel uneasy.
Be alert !!!!! Flat Rate are Fraudsters I am writing this review for all the truckers who wants to work for flat rate. These guys do not pay once delivery is done. We have done a load for them and it was a smooth on time delivery, without any issues. It has been more than 60 days, I am trying to get our payment and there is no one responding now. They are fraudsters. it is not only there clients they con, they do it with there truckers as well.
Sales were great. Movers were great. Managing office was awful. They changed our original move plan at the last minute, turning a 2-day job into a 1-day job. They didn’t send enough people to address the issue (despite confirming that they would). They didn’t respect our time or commitments. They said we would not be charged for certain items (storage) and then charged us. No one would return my calls. Will not use them again.
Quick update: i got a call from the VP of this company and he was very apologetic about his employees rudeness over the phone and tried to make it better, but it was to late at that moment because i have already booked another company...so …
Flat Rate movers is the absolute worst moving company I’ve ever used. The showed up 4.5 hours late to my scheduled move. Brought a new team including 2 men who had never worked on a move before. They broke my brand new expensive console …

I cannot recommend FlatRate Moving enough. I’m 28 weeks pregnant and the idea of managing a move felt completely overwhelming — FlatRate made it effortless. Their team handled the full pack, showed up on time, communicated clearly throughout, and treated every single item with care. They are also true to the name, it’s a flat rate! The cost quoted was the cost I paid (plus tip). Not one thing was damaged.
