READ THIS BEFORE YOU BOOK A MOVE WITH THIS COMPANY! I have NEVER had a worse experience with a company. Period. I have never even written a review on yelp before. This company was recommended to me by a friend. The company was professional and courteous up until the day of my move. I was moving from DC to NYC. They were scheduled to load the truck at 2pm on Friday. They did not arrive until 5:30pm, and we had to reach out to them to see what was going on. They at no point called us.
I booked this company a few months ago - based on the earlier reviews - but seriously, read the most recent reviews and believe them. I could not urge you strongly enough to AVOID this company. They are cheap (in estimates) for a reason. They WILL hit you with hidden charges and their movers WILL move like snails and take double the time to pack your apartment than it actually requires. The final price was 55% higher than quoted and the customer service was SO SO SO bad.
I am writing this to report perhaps the worst example of customer service I have ever experienced. Despite having booked our out of state move 3 months in advance and confirmed it the day before with Georgetown, I received a call on the morning of the move saying that they had to cancel me due to a staffing issue! Further, not only could they not do the move that day, they utterly refused to even reschedule it. I asked what my family and I were supposed to do as our lease was expiring and they had no answer!
Hiring Georgetown Movers was one of the worst decisions I’ve ever made. They lost several of my belongings—items I personally packed, clearly labeled, and watched them carry out. They also damaged my coffee table and left deep scrapes and dents in the walls of our new apartment. Don’t even bother with the insurance—it’s a total scam. Every claim I submitted was denied, even with clear proof—ipad and AirPods locations were CLEARLY in their property. And the customer service? Absolutely awful.
I will just list my problems with this company in order: 1) They disassembled half of my furniture items (I ordered a moving company specifically because I did not want anything disassembled). I mentioned that to the movers, but they started arguing back and told me that they would not be able to fit everything in their truck because it "already had other stuff in it." 2) They lost some small pieces of the disassembled furniture and refused to reimburse me for them.
I recently used them for moving my furniture/belongings out of my apartment, into storage, and then into our house once it was ready. The move out took FOREVER. Very inefficient (and therefore SUPER costly). They estimated it would take 3-4 hours to empty our 2 bedroom, already-packed apartment. Instead, we had to stop them after 6 hours since we had a house showing to attend.
AVOID THIS MOVING COMPANY! I'm not one to post reviews, but our service with Georgetown Moving was so bad that I felt compelled to warn others. As a military family we have moved all over the world and have had used numerous moving companies. Georgetown is by far the worst. They are unresponsive to both emails and phone calls. They also broke our TV while in shipment and haven't returned any emails detailing how to file a claim.
We used Georgetown Moving to move to Maryland from out of state because they were slightly cheaper than their competitors. That was a HUGE MISTAKE. They did a full pack that was completely haphazard: dress clothes that were hanging in the closet were balled up and stuffed into boxes, none of the framed art was properly packed (a ton of it broke), and they improperly disassembled the bed frame and now it is permanently broken.

From initial contact, loading and unloading my belongings, the experience with Georgetown Moving and Storage was really exceptional. The office staff communicated quickly and effectively. They had excellent follow up on the details of my move. The crew was really exceptional. They arrived promptly within reason (Traffic in the area is unpredictable!). While loading and unloading both guys (John and Cedric) were careful, polite and a delight. I recommend Georgetown Moving with no hesitation or reservation.
My son moved from DC to NYC. The crew arrived at his DC appt on Saturday as planned and they arrived at the new appt on Monday as planned…..but nothing went as planned from that point. My son’s flight was canceled so he was not in NYC to meet the crew. The building superintendent did not show up to let them in. The rental agent was working in another part of the city….somehow they found somebody to let them in and the move was completed despite the obstacles. Totally impressed.
I cannot say thank you enough to Georgetown Moving & Storage! Not only were they extremely responsive and flexible, they did a fantastic job of packing up our apartment and moving to our new home. They took extreme care with our valuables and fragile items and I'm happy to say that not one single item was broken or lost during the transition. The team lead was Ricardo for our move and both his packers & movers were such fun to be around, making what is a very stressful time one that was enjoyable and seamless.
My fiancé and I used this company to move from College Park to Kent Island. The time and date we requested two weeks in advance was available, and I was told that I would receive a confirmation phone call the day prior to confirm our details. I did not receive a confirmation call, so I called and left a message, which was never returned. I called the day of our move several times to confirm a team was on their way; the representative who finally answered the phone seemed annoyed that I was calling.
