In their own words
1.5 stars if I can be exact. I called appx 1 week in advance to book Helping Hands Movers to assist in a move that was less than 5 miles: from Manayunk to Germantown, PA. 2 bedrooms and 1 bath level of work. I have moved across country 3 times and hired movers 5 times before. No one was rude, but the service was terrible in every aspect except my initial quote.
SCAM!! Online it noted the deposit would be due when movers arrive on the date of move, but I was contacted to send the amount in advance. They reached out to me asking for a deposit paid through bitcoin, Cashapp or Venmo + a 3% fee. Knowing bitcoin and Cashapp do not have buyer protection, I opted for Venmo and received no other responses from the company. Edit - owners response is only correct, in that, I was contacted via text at 1:58 on 4/15.
Our policies are crystal clear and presented in writing at the time of booking and the text, verbatim, has been included below. Nearly every day we have clients submit deposits for their move without issue. It's essentially literally impossible to be confused about the process.
I have to report unfortunately that despite the move going well, the movers stole a gun and $700 in cash that I foolishly left in my bedside table. Since the movers aren’t real employees, the company has no liability or responsibility in the matter. If you hire this company, keep a really close eye on the movers. Beware. Addendum: nothing in their reply here changes the fact that the movers stole these items from me. Blaming me for the theft and refusing to file an insurance claim on my behalf changes nothing.
This claim is not one that we can verify. The customer contacted us this morning, a month and a half after their move was completed to notify us of the alleged theft of $700 in cash and a firearm. We replied to them in less than 60 seconds.
I wouldn’t recommend this Company to anybody. My daughter was over charged and they had to nerve to Damage her bedroom furniture while breaking it down, said nothing. We found out once we tried to put everything back together. The Movers went over their allotted time cause they had to take WEED breaks, when we spoke to The Owner Daryl he had the audacity to ask if We were sure it was WEED! Insulted my intelligence. No type of compassion nor compensation was given to my daughter.
They're the worst moving company. I had to help move my things. I paid for 3 movers and a truck. They sent 2. They refused to take my belongings off the truck and left with my things after I paid $550. I had to call the police. I had nothing to wear, eat and they had my computers for work. They held my things hostage for over a week until they were forced to bring my things or go to jail. I still have not received my dresser and mirror. Do not use this company.
List all of the things that could go wrong with a simple move and that’s my review. My wife booked and confirmed moving help (our rental truck) from a storage facility to our new home. Despite making it clear that the work would start at the storage unit, the movers showed up at the house (and were late). Since they apparently didn’t have a car, they came via Uber which meant they needed to catch another Uber to the storage unit 25 minutes away. Seriously. They arrived way late.
This company is a FRAUD! I already know they probably will be BSing under this review just like they do on every other 1-star review. I honestly don't care. If this review saves even one person from dealing with this disaster, it's worth it. My husband booked our move about a week in advance giving them all the details and paid $570 deposit. The movers were supposed to arrive at 9:00 AM on Sunday. They didn't show up until around 1:30–2:00 PM, and that was only after an insane number of calls and texts from us.
Last Thursday, I went online and found this company last minute, sent in a request, and the next morning they contacted me and we confirmed the reservation for 4pm on Friday. In my requested, I stated that they would be moving 2 bedroom apartment (from storage) to a house (less than 5 miles away) and listed the items. I also spoke on the phone with Josh to discuss the items as well. The website has a listed price of $334 for 3 movers, truck, and equipment for 2 hours with a deposit for $200.

I saw an ad on Craigslist for helping hands Philly Movers and called to price a moving job, The communication and professionalism of the owner was excellent during scheduling. The website is up to date and trustworthy. We worked together to determine what service was best for me. I received a confirmation of the day of the appointment and I was even offered an early time.
I used Helping Hands for a last minute move from a place of business to a storage facility to my company. Darryl was very quick to respond after a form submission and a call, and had a team to pickup our stuff on time and for a very reasonable price. They got us out of a tough spot quickly! Those on the team would great - as a woman who was managing this myself and not from Philly, I felt comfortable with those working on his team to move to things to a remote space at night, which was a huge thumbs up for this…
I had a fantastic experience with this moving company! The crew — a group of young, hardworking professionals — were kind, efficient, and professional from start to finish. We were moving in the middle of an ice storm, which easily could have caused delays or added stress. Instead, they showed up right on time, stayed positive, and worked carefully and efficiently despite the harsh weather conditions. The storm didn’t affect their service at all.
Customer service was excellent from beginning to end. The owner, Darryl, his quick responsiveness and willingness to help was excellent when I was days away from a significant move (I'd been researching for months, and Helping Hands Philly was the most responsive with the best price for a long distance move). I also appreciated how Darryl was communicative at every step of the process, even when his guys were on the road, he was checking in with them and with us: for me, that showed his care about his people and…
