Homegrown Moving and Storage - Lakewood Movers

RAN LATE, DAMAGED ITEMS, & OWNER WAS DISRESPECTFUL AND RUDE! I was diagnosed with cancer and was very sick when it was time for me to move from my apartment. The first company I scheduled with never showed up so I called Homegrown off a craigslist ad. They were twice as much but the owner (TOBY) PROMISED me the extra cost would be worth it. I explained I had to pay my building a fee for moving and only had a 4 hour window, which should have been plenty of time.

Terrible experience. The movers showed up at the wrong time. They later claimed that they showed up at the right time, and we just had the details wrong. Upon arrival, the movers told us it was a two-day job, even though we were quoted for a one-day job on the phone. The company's operations manager, Josh, then claimed (after complaints) that his team was never given the correct details about the move. a.k.a., he blamed us for his team's mistakes.

First the positive- the guys did a great job during the move. I rented hard sided, stackable moving boxes instead of using cardboard to make things easier for them. I had all lampshades and bulbs removed from light fixtures, and shelves were removed from bookcases. I was promised 2 guys, but they showed up with 3- Carlos, Mike and I unfortunately can’t remember the third name.

We called and requested a move at 3:00 PM and was told everything was good and was booked. Confirmed multiple (3+) times over the phone with Mike that 3:00 was okay and they’d be available. The morning of our move we are told the service was actually scheduled for 8:30 that morning and had been cancelled. When we called back (took 8 tries and 3 different numbers to get someone to answer) we were told very rudely that moves aren't scheduled that late in the day.

We chose this company because of the positive reviews however we had an absolutely horrible experience! The two movers sent were very inexperienced and unprofessional. When loading our belongings into the truck they repeatedly disregarded the instructions we had given them about not moving certain items (expensive audio equipment, speakers, etc).

This moving experience was the absolute most horrific and degrading experience of my life. The team that was sent to my loft had a leader who refused to pack up our storage POD in an efficient matter and kept insisting there was no room left in it when in fact there was so much room left. He said once things are loaded he would not reload things to make everything fit.

Long story as short as I can. They were supposed to send two trucks with 2 guys each to two locations Saturday by 9am. We heard from them at about 9 that someone called in sick so both trucks with 3 guys would have to do go to storage unit first, then the one of the trucks would meet me at the second location as soon as a 4th mover could be sent. So I'm waiting and waiting, hours later a 4th mover shows up to where I'm at, calls boss when he realizes no one else is there and is sent to the house we're moving into.

The movers worked really hard and were great to work with. The front office was a disastrous, and I would have left a one-star review if it wasn’t for the movers. First, they completely underestimated what it would take to move us even though we took the time to inventory everything with them. It took double the amount of trucks, extra guys, and double the time and money we originally estimated. The original start time we scheduled for had to be moved to accommodate their scheduling mistake.
