Hornet Moving

I don’t even know where to begin. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Read on to know the specifics. TLDR - they pay you pennies for damaged and MISSING items. Be prepared to be out thousands of dollars in damages and losses if you proceed with Hornet Moving. I’ve moved many times, including within NC and across state lines into and out of NC. My experience with Hornet Moving was absolutely the worst moving experience I’ve ever had (and I previously had oil dumped on a white couch by another moving company).

Extremely unprofessional. I booked this company because of all the positive reviews, but my experience was far from positive. First, they showed up 45 minutes late. Then, after I signed the contract, they didn’t even start for another 15 minutes because they stopped to talk to a friend. I was willing to let that go because they got everything out pretty quickly. Mind you, I had already taken everything apart and handled all of the small details, so they really didn’t have to do more work than necessary.

I decided to go with Hornet Moving due to their good reviews on google. However, that was a mistake. My movers, although very nice boys; work EXTREMELY slow to be so young and in shape. I think it’s ridiculous that a studio apartment less than 700 square feet takes FOUR hours to complete. It’s highway robbery!! Especially when your customer is being charged at an hourly rate and the entire apartment is packed up and ready to go with the only thing needing to be done extra is disassembling a bed, putting a tv in a…

While the movers were nice they unfortunately did not do a great job. I wish o was prepared more by hornet moving that everything (furniture, etc.) would need to be covered and wrapped myself. They do provide materials however multiple items were chipped scratched stained or broken. I also responded to an internal questionnaire which received no response for a negative review. For near $1k I felt more should have been or provided to help secure my items.

The first afternoon we had Hornet come over was earlier this week. The estimate on the phone was a 3-5 hour job, despite my spouse telling them on the phone that we have a large apartment with two beds and two large desks that need to be disassembled and reassembled. Sure enough, the afternoon the movers arrived, the three guys who came were sure this should've been a morning move. However, they got as much done as they could and blew through it. They did a great job, were polite and professional.

Insure your items, if you don't want to end up like me. They broke my bed when breaking it down. The movers tried to hide the damage and Hornet will not agree to fix my bed, only pay cents on the dollar for the damaged they caused my bed, nightstands, freezer, dining set, dressers and couch. Why? I did not opt to pay for additional insurance. After initially offering to fix my bed, I was later told they would not do so.

Update on 06/17/2026- The service you get is highly dependent on the crew you get that day. I’ve now used the company twice and wouldn’t risk it next time. Second move service was atrocious and not a continued reflection of the first experience at all. Boxes are damaged, tv boxes weren’t tied down well in the truck- wrapping is missing- and the move duration was severely high due to inefficiencies.

(updated dec2025) previous rating: 5 stars but this time was a disaster! This is the last time I will use this company. One guy showed up high (my home smelled like weed for 2 days after my move!!) & proceeded to get higher throughout the day - he basically just drifted through the day barely doing anything. One guy kept standing around & asking me how much I spent on my furniture. One guy was OK but needed prodding to keep moving & had very little spatial awareness.
