As if moving isn't horrible anyway-- this company provided the absolute worst move of my long mobile career. I have a large number of missing and broken items. This was the least of the issues. The movers originally arrived late to pack me up, took out the mailbox in my neighborhood, didn't have tools to take apart the furniture, forgot their ramp, and didn't have the appropriate sized boxes.
The movers worked hard. They arrived two hours late due to their truck needing a light replacement per the office. We were not happy about that. But the most disturbing thing was the movers mentioned at the end of the move when they were leaving that the money I had meant to remove from my dresser had " fallen" inside the dresser all over when they turned it to move it. As soon as I was told I checked and the tupperware container the money was in was still sealed on three sides and it was empty.
CONSUMER ALERT! NEVER use this carrier if you want ALL your HHG to arrive at its final destination; and moreover, what does arrive, arrives without rodent droppings and urine soiled linens and clothes! Additionally, two large vans and more, of HHG Items were packed, picked up, and placed into long term J. Barber Virginia Warehouse storage. Only one van delivered two vans of HHG to the new destination.
Mr. Everhart, what name is your shipment under? We do not show anyone by your name in our system or any issue that you have described ever coming from our warehouse. What you are describing has not been an issue with our facility because we are inspected monthly.
Don't use this company!!! They do not deserve even one star. They damaged almost every piece of furniture we have. They broke two mirrors, smashed our big green egg in half, damaged antiques that have been in the family and cannot be replaced! They damaged a custom made dining room table and all of our chairs, tore our mattresses, damaged all of our wood furniture! They did a horrible job and nobody in the company even bothered to call and say sorry for ruining our stuff.
They did a nice job, however once I got my delivery, I recognized that I was missing about $2000 + dollars worth of stuff and of the two people wrapping, only one had access to this area were the stuff was located. A word to the wise, photo their drivers licences and do not let them carry any back packs on the job.

We cannot say enough good things about this moving company! Both of their teams were polite, professional, hard-working, and communicative at all times. We knew exactly when they would arrive and when things took longer than expected, additional team members showed up early to pitch in and help complete our move on-time. We moved nearly 9,000 pounds of goods, kept them in storage for three weeks, and only the only damaged/broken item was a single chipped glass!
I highly recommend J. Barber Moving and Storage for anyone contemplating a household move- whether point to point, or with storage in the middle. All three crews (pack, pick up and delivery) were well dressed, polite, professional and cheerful. Everything was well wrapped and protected and handled with care. The crews took the time to lay down cardboard to protect the floors while loading and unloading and at the end of the event I couldn't find any stray paper, tape or cardboard to police up- they had gotten…
I recommend J. Barber for moving. They were both professional and flexible. The actual cost came in under the estimate which is always good.
Yes, i debated giving them only 4 stars, but that wouldn't be fair just because i had to get up early for several days (8:15 for them arriving at 8:30am) :) . It is now a couple months after the move. I prefer to wait to write so the dust can settle. We have several areas to look at - price, packing, loading, delivery and unpacking. Price: If all you've done are inter-state moves, prepare to be shocked on your first intra-state (same state) move.
