I am not a person who usually leaves online reviews for businesses, especially negative reviews. However, I don't want anyone else to have to go through the same horrible experience that my family and I had when we called Main Street Movers. From the moment someone answer the phone for my wife, she was immediately put on hold for over 10 minutes. After 10 minutes before the line went dead and we got a dial tone. When we called back, my wife was spoken to so rudely, and disrespectfully, that she began to get upset.
Greg, we strive to provide a high level of service to all of our customers and are always looking for ways to improve. Unfortunately, we do not believe this review is an accurate reflection of an experience with our business because we do not have any male answering our phones.
Surprised at these reviews, my overall experience was not pleasant. We made a last-minute request (within 2 weeks of the move) and they accommodated. We had to move a 4 BR house about 5 miles in the same town. The contract was $185 per hour for the move. This was a mistake, always get a fixed estimate. They called the day before and moved up the appointment by 3 to 4 hours which made it a little hectic for us since we were closing at that time, but we worked around it.
I am terribly sorry you had such a bad experience with a local mover but it wasn’t with Main Street Movers in Irvington NJ. Here’s why: 1. You are based in North Carolina 2. We do not have an hourly rate of $185. 3. We do NOT hire casual help 4. We do NOT use U haul trucks 5.
Main Street Movers sent Alex Della Valle to my house to ensure I received an accurate quote for my move. Based on his assessment, three men and a 26 foot truck arrived on moving day. What should have been a simple two bedroom condo move took two round trips and 12 exhausting and stressful hours. The cost went from the estimated $2,000 to $3,000. I depended on Alex to know that in order to ensure a smooth move in a timely manner at the price he quoted, he needed to send a larger truck and more men.

I was relocating to NYC for work and my job booked Main Street Movers to unpack my stuff into my apartment in lower manhattan. They arrived on time and everything seemed totally fine. It was a young group of guys and they seemed nice and casual (I’m definitely not uptight about professionalism or anything like that).

AT YOUR OWN RISK. They were super nice in person. No problems with In person service. But apparently you're not paying for conscientiousness. Or repair. This antique bench was one of multiple victims. It looked like it had been smashed against a brick wall. Three other older wood pieces were cracked or damaged. All of these pieces had made multiple moves with my family over the past 50 years. We didn't know to buy extra insurance and were offered a whopping $125 compensation.
Main Street Movers is a highly rated professional moving company. We do our best to never have a dissatisfied customer. When an issue is brought to our attention we respond immediately as we did with you. That is why this review is both surprising and inaccurate.
Absolutely do not use this company my experience with then was horrible. Without going into detail. They are slow. They will not listen to you or when something is clearly marked fragile. Below is just a sample if there work.
We are surprised and saddened by your review, to attribute your dissatisfaction with our company is unfair and undeserved. We were asked by our Van Line to pack some of your item in advance of a long-distance move.

From the first interaction of speaking on the phone with them it was seamless. I received all the answers to my questions, fair pricing, and great follow up. The movers were amazing. They showed up on time and were professional- kind and so efficient. I would recommend Main Street Movers over and over again. Office staff was responsive and their communication was perfect.
Such a wonderful experience with Main Street Moving company from start to finish. We first spoke with Alex to set up an appt for him to come take a look at our home and give an estimate for our move. He was so kind, knowledgeable and helpful; walking through the house and offering guidance on packing/prep and was happy to answer any questions that arose. He provided a detailed outline and estimate of our needs.
I was really impressed with everything. From the initial evaluation and estimating process until the actual move day, everything was great. Nicole visited the two locations that we were moving from. She wanted to see everything first hand to provide an accurate estimate. She also gave us tips on how to make the moving process easier and quicker. All of that made the actual move day much better. Elvis arrived right on time with his crew.
We contracted with Main Street Movers for our latest move because we had a great experience with them on our last move. The crew arrived on time and with plenty of packing materials and protective blankets for the furniture. As in our prior move, the principal crew members were friendly, communicative and careful - in fact a couple of them had been involved in our prior move. Our move involved a relocation of only a few miles, albeit across a state line.
