Man With A Van

Very displeased with the service. First of all, they charge by the hour which I realized too late is a scam. I had a small one bedroom so I figured it wouldn’t take more than a few hours. It took five. It shouldn’t have. I chose them because the rate was good but with five hours of work I ended up paying more than every other service quoted me. Second, they scam you with the number of movers they provide. I paid the 3 man rate, but one guy stood outside next to the truck the whole time.

TL;DR took too long because they were fighting (one on coke?) driving the cost up; ghosted me after I moved in January 2022 and had an overall disappointing experience. The communication beforehand was fine. But the day of, the movers were arguing (which made me and neighbors really uncomfortable) and at least one seemed to be on coke, which wasted a lot of time, driving the cost of the move higher than expected (it took hours longer than they'd told me it would, and they charged by the hour).

Working with them was a mistake. They blew their time commitment, threw surprise charges, and wasted a ton of time arguing. I was promised the sharp arrival 11.30am - 1pm. And the guys took an additional job to install shelfs and thus arrived 1:40pm. I asked to pay additional $92.50 that included COI, but later I got hit with a second COI charge, and the numbers were tweaked to make it look like $92.50 didn't include COI. The mover confirmed the original $92.50 already included the $35 COI charge.

MONEY STOLEN FROM WALLET - please read I was selling a piece of furniture online and the buyer used Man with a Van to pick up the item from my apartment. Two men came to my apartment (one was named Domingo, but I didn't catch the other guy's name). The piece of furniture they were picking up was in my bedroom. My bedroom is not big enough for both men and myself to stand in while they removed the piece of furniture, so I waited outside. They closed the door to remove the furniture for probably 30 seconds.

I've used Man With A Van before and it was fine. But this last move was one of the most unprofessional interactions I've ever had with a company. I scheduled them weeks in advance and had everything prepared to move at 12pm. I was given a call at 10:30am from the movers and they asked if they could come early. I said no because I didn't have the truck or the elevator - so the movers wouldn't be able to do anything and I would have to pay them. The guy was totally miffed and hung up on me.

Pros: fair pricing, will provide you with CIOs if needed. Cons: There was no phone or email confirmation the day before the move. The day of the move the men that arrived at 7:45am for a 9am job and were upset that they had to wait and told me (the customer ) they had other jobs to get to. I was nice and told them to come up early and start in the meantime to speed things along. Leo particularly was rude and almost didn't want to take a few extra bags because they were not in the estimate.

Stay away from this place - they will damage your items and refuse to compensate you. This was our second time using man with a van and it was a terrible experience. We paid by the hour and the guys who did our move were very slow. They took breaks every time they went down to the truck to load it and they were moving so slowly that our building super even commented on it. They took so long that by the time we arrived to our new place we only had an hour left of our reserved time at the loading dock.

Called them to inquire about moving a single heavy item from a my office to a different location 5 minutes away in the city. I was quoted a price close to $200 which I told him seemed a bit high for such a small job--although I was prepared to discuss it. The guy proceeded to tell me that they're expensive since they have insurance, and that they have plenty of imitators that I should talk to instead before hanging up on me.
