I am actually very saddened to write this review on marathon movers because I thought I would have a great experience based on the interactions I had with the schedulers over the phone. I had movers scheduled to come today to pack and move my items. My apartment had some damage due to an electrical fire two weeks ago but it was cleared by fire marshalls that it was safe. There was no safety hazards or damage inside my specific apartment.

Sent movers out to lift heavy items . I was only quoted for two movers with an estimate of 4 hours ( it was not going to take that long) but was told it would even though I had these same items moved from my home to the same apartment complex I moved out of . On moving day they showed up with 3 movers . Anyway this moved only lasted 2hrs and 48 mins and when the bill came I was told one price which I then gave my card to be charged . One of the movers stepped away to call the manager .

I wanted to leave a review for this company because of how I was treated when attempting to scheduling a move for specialty furniture/equipment. If you’re looking for professionals that care about customer service and you as the consumer, DO NOT use this company. Keep reading if you would like to know why. I was first informed that the company would be able to move my furniture from downstairs to upstairs in my house. was later informed via email that moving my furniture would be a liability.

This review is for the sales department services and not their moving services. Bottom line: the sales associate agreed to terms, verbally, and the company refused to honor our verbal agreement. While looking for a company to assist in unloading my containers of home goods, I found Marathon. After negotiating with several companies they were the best financially. The services I agreed to with Rebeccah: $260 an hour (before military discount) plus a $75 stair fee. I booked Marathon 5 days before move in date.

On 26 July 2023 the Marathan Moving Services team of 3 persons worked well until the last portion of the job whereas the team did not attach a mirror to a chest of drawers, installed a queen sized bed frame without using any foot rollers or metal pads, and did not install the middle drawer of a rolling desk which required adjusting the two side pedestals spacing in order to install the middle drawer. They just left the drawer on the top of the desk.

Zero stars. We were scheduled for a local move 6 weeks prior to moving day. We sold our house in Williamsburg, so we were on a deadline to get out and my husband had just had a stroke weeks before. Marathon Moving Services canceled our move less than 18 hrs before moving day, no explanation given. See my 5 star review for Southside Moving and Storage(Norfolk), they saved the day! They were excellent and booked us at very short notice.

Loaded truck at old house and left items behind without saying anything. Went to lunch between old house and new house with our items still in truck. Tried billing us for an extra hour. Minor damage to multiple items (dinged corners, gouges in some shelving, office chair seat torn) Slightly cheaper than competitors, but probably not worth it. Will not use again or recommend.

After the move, several damages to my furniture were identified and were immediately reported on. It’s been almost one month and half a dozen attempts via multiple emails and calls in my efforts to resolve the issues; however, no one cared to respond or address my concerns.
