Marathon Moving, Your Boston Moving Company

We had a horrible experience with this company, Marathon Moving Co, based in Canton, MA. They were hired to pack up our home and move us from one MA suburb to another. As any busy family, with working parents would understand, moving is incredibly stressful, and we failed to remember to remove our children's wallets from their desks and dressers before moving. We had a million other things to think about.

Nightmare move! Complete failure on Marathon Moving Logistics part! Estimate process was a complete scam, was originally quoted $3,800.00, then after and “update” cost jumped to $6,800.00 I was given a pick-up “window” of Aug 9th, 10th or 11th. The truck was a complete NO-SHOW. I was stuck without any support. I had to rent 3 U-Boxes and move myself. I called to get a refund, but they refused, so I had to file a Credit card dispute with my Bank. I believe I will now file a complaint with the BBB.

So beyond disappointed we chose this company for a move from MA to FL. Despite assurances to the contrary, they do NOT handle the entire move themselves, and in reality we had to deal with at least 4 different 3rd parties (they are part of Allied but subcontract every step out). The extra insurance is worthless. 3 months later, after our dining room table and heirloom antique dresser were severely damaged and the adjuster they sent fully agreed, one item was denied and the other item was partially denied, so we…

# Disappointing Experience with ALLIED VAN LINES / MARATHON MOVING, CANTON, MA I'm extremely dissatisfied with the service I received from ALLIED VAN LINES / MARATHON MOVING, CANTON, MA during my recent cross-country move. Despite their promises of careful handling and secure transportation, the most important box containing my entire life's belongings and family heirlooms went missing/stolen while in their care.

Update: we were finally able to move into the rest of our house (was under renovation), only to learn how much was broken in our boxes, pieces of furniture they left wrapped in storage that they broke and never said anything (pieces just fall apart as we unwrap them), screws stripped, pieces of things missing. Honestly the most utter disregard for another human beings things. Those movers were disgusting. DO NOT HIRE this company. The administrative side is good. The moving aspect is NOT!

Movers were great. Dennis and his team were efficient and careful. 5 stars for them, zero stars for Marathon as a company but more specifically my agent Angel V. Long, frustrating story short I was overcharged nearly $500 on moving day. I paid without issue because I figured the movers were not privy to the details of the contract and honestly I didn't realize just how much I was overcharged in the moment.

My family used Marathon Movers because they had 66 five star reviews when we were searching for moving companies. Marathon Movers worked with Allied for our move from MA to N.H. Marathon movers showed up to our home for the move with a truck far too small to move our belongs. We repeatedly mentioned this to the movers and we were laughed off and told it would fit or we were told there were no other trucks available. They squeezed all of our belongings into that small truck for over $6,000.

I would not recommend them. We've moved 5 times in the last 12 years and decided to try a larger agent. We chose Allied who was serviced in our area by Marathon Moving. Their quote was almost double the next best company we trusted, however, given Allied's reputation and the services that were promised, we decided to give them a shot. While getting a quote Marathon was quite pleasant with them being very helpful in that stage.
