I hired Metropolis for a move and paid for packing and unpacking services because I'm recovering from an injury. The hourly packing/unpacking and flat-rate moving tasks ended up being mixed together, which seemed to result in a final cost significantly higher than the original quote, even though no inventory changes occurred. The packing and unpacking felt disorganized and chaotic.
Naomi, I find your post deeply disappointing. Though I was skeptical from the beginning, I still offered every fair option to rectify your supposed “claims.” You denied them all, posted this 1-star review, then said to me only a $200-300 refund would resolve your “issues.” Once we paid it ONLY THEN…
Hired these guys twice. The first time was fine: a move from a Long Island storage unit to a storage unit in the Upper East Side. 4hrs door-to-door, arriving perfectly within the time frame, nothing broken. Took only two guys. The second time, they sent 3 guys for the same amount of items to move from the UES storage unit to a new luxury building in LIC. Long story short, they gave me an arrival between 12pm-3pm for arrival and didn't even arrive until 4:35pm.
Hey Pei-Yu, I apologize it took so long to respond to this review. We've tried calling you several times since this review has been posted and we've also sent several emails but we have yet to receive your response. Since your move there have been some major changes at Metropolis Moving.
Pretty unpleasant experience. One guy arrived on time, and he was polite and professional. The others were late, unprofessional and disrespectful. They were kicking boxes while moving them, slamming doors, playing loud music while moving dispute our new building management asking not to do so multiple times, and yelling profanity with anger. I was not only disturbed and disrespected as a customer, but I also feared our physical safety at one point.

I have worked with them twice. Both times there were damages to my furniture. I hired them the second time because they were so kind and helpful in responding to the damage issue the first time around, accidents happen. Having had this happen a second time, not okay. There were black smudges on my white furniture and some of my breakables boxes were dropped off upside down---pretty sure I did not pack them this way. My bins also have tape residue all over them.

The process leading up to the move was perfect, and their communication via email was quick and helpful. Unfortunately, on moving day instead of three people there were two for my third floor walk up - even the two movers asked if I was told I’d have 3, they seemed surprised about the stairs as well. My main complaint was the fact the furniture was not wrapped.

These guys are crooks plain and simple. I have moved seven times in Manhattan and never experienced anything like this. Where to begin? After they show, when they really have you, they charge $5 extra for every item. Extra piece of paper $5. Every pillow on your couch... $5 (I wish I was joking). When the boxes got to the other apartment they were all crushed and contents were broken.

We felt scammed by a bait and switch. Paid significantly more than the original quote because they charged for every small thing they had to do to move us. For example, they charged an additional fee to move a bag with two towels. For a bed, which was in the quote, they charged to disassemble and reassemble. We had no option but to pay since it was impossible to arrange another mover with short notice. We felt scammed and not satisfied with the quality ( they also forgot to give us back an item of ours).

Third time using Metropolis and still my go-to! Eddie and Christian were incredible. I moved from a 2 bed in bushwick to a storage unit in ridgewood. They arrived early, walked through the space with me, and had a clear plan before starting. Super organized, calm, and easy to work with from beginning to end. My move was fairly organized but full of open IKEA bags and big moving duffels. They didn’t blink. Everything was handled with care, wrapped properly, and packed strategically.

The Metropolis team did a fantastic job for my move from Manhattan to NJ. Everything was perfect from heads up emails the day before to let us know the plan, the calls from Steve and Jack to let us know when they would be arriving and to getting everything done in a timely manner and as we discussed. The pack was thorough, nothing was damaged and the packers were very careful with how certain delicate items were packed (extra protection and reinforcements for certain items was impressive).

Metropolis Moving is the ONLY moving company I use in NYC, and this was my fourth time booking these local NYC movers. This time they moved a 2 bedroom apartment’s worth of stuff that I had in a storage unit on the Woodside/Jackson Heights border to my new apartment in Fresh Meadows, Queens, and once again everything was perfect. My family just recently moved from Brooklyn to Philadelphia. One of the biggest sources of anxiety for us was the prospect of choosing the right movers, especially since I had been robbed (not a metaphor, I mean actually robbed) by a moving company in the past, and despite all the research and reviews I read, I could not find a company that didn't have at least a handful of 'nightmare/do-not-hire' customer complaints.
