Modern Piano Moving

If you treasure your piano or your time, I recommend going with a different company. Not only was my Steinway and my carpet damaged, they simply failed to get the piano up the stairs into the living room. The dispatchers are also incredibly rigid with timing, and do not even try to make an effort to provide decent customer service. I paid extra (about $2500 total!) due to the number of stairs in my house.

I normally do not write reviews, but I thought it might help others when they are trying to decide who to hire when they need a piano mover. After getting quotes from 3 different companies, I hired Modern Piano to move our grand piano from Florida to Utah in May of 2020, even though they were the most expensive, based on a recommendation from our piano tuner. After doing some research and reading some reviews online about them, I decided to hire them.

Although I have never personally used this company, my neighbors have. Therefore, I can't rate the actually work that is done. I can, however tell you about my experience with them. You see, they parked their semi truck directly in front of my driveway, My daughter asked then to please move as we were in a hurry to get somewhere. They were rude to her and in no hurry to move the truck, but did. When I returned they had moved their truck back in front of my driveway.

It took a long time to get my piano-like 6 weeks. They did an OK job transporting it. Worst part is they broke the handle for raising the bench. I went to make a claim and its been nothing but brain damage. They never called me about it. I had to call them. They had to find the invoice. I had to send pictures. Then wait. Then send more pictures. Then wait. Then I had to box it up and send it to them (at my time and expense). I live rurally so its tough to send things. I misplaced the address. Called them back.

Now in September, we’re still getting muddled answers about delivery - currently claimed for October. The first interaction was April, just to give context. Apologies get hollow after months of emails and phone calls where there seems to be no urgency. Lack of follow-through on Modern’s part created the first 30 days of delays, and it just seemed to go downhill from there. Just the same canned responses, over and over. Never, never would I recommend Modern Piano. This is a follow up review, post-delivery.

This is our very sad story about moving our piano cross-country. We moved from Ohio to Montana just about a year ago. I chose Modern Piano Movers based on the positive reviews I read. Their team arrived at our Ohio home on 7/11/19 and carefully loaded our Steinway ‘L’ grand piano and bench. I was present for the loading. The crew was friendly, careful, and did a great job protecting our piano. We had no idea we would have to wait almost 8 weeks for our piano.

Run! Run far! Run fast! If you value your home, your sanity, or your wallet, stay far away from Modern Piano. My experience with them was an absolute disaster from start to finish, and I’m still dealing with the aftermath. First of, they showed up without enough manpower to safely move a piano—something you’d assume a piano moving company would have figured out. Instead, they arrived short-staffed and made me wait nearly an hour for a fourth person to show up.

DO NOT USE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. THEY DROPPED AND DESTROYED MY YAMAHA DC3PRO BABY GRAND PIANO. Hired them to move my prized possession from NY to South Carolina. The clown-show that showed up to deliver it was the most incompetent, short-tempered bunch of contractors I've ever seen. After hours of idiocy that I'll spare you, they determined they couldn't actually get the piano up the stairs to my condo (Despite my sending many pics, descriptions, and everything else Modern Piano asked for).
