NorthStar Moving Company

I've worked with them a couple of times. The first time years ago, it was smooth, easy to communicate with, and the job was done very efficiently. That was for a small 2 bedroom apartment. This time working with them for a move from a small house to house was a challenging experience. Not only did they misquote the cost of the move, they nearly doubled it. We did a virtual walk through and cost quote, including everything in the home.

So this place offers like $200+ discounts for giving it 5 star reviews when you are about to pay. I’ve had severe issues using this company twice and never again. Their credit card machine didn’t work so they had us run around to ATMs at 1am, they showed up hours late, they forgot their tools at our first location and had to run back an hour away while we waited, they took screws for putting our desk back together when they were done so we had to find new screws, they broke plates, handled boxes terribly…

If the DMV offered moving services, I would select them over NorthStar. I recently hired NorthStar to move a studio apartment to another studio apartment 15 minutes away. To pack 2/3 of the apartment and move from a 400 sqft studio apartment it took them 8 hours. If they were slow and careful, that would be one thing, but these individuals were slow and careless. In the last hour, I lapped these men hustling boxes up to my new apartment because they were so slow.

I had initially shared a positive review, however after seeing the way they delivered and handled my stuff, I had to edit it. Here’s a picture that shows just how poorly they treated my stuff. This is a mattress I paid for extra insurance. That’s right - completely folded in half, lying in the middle of a dirty SF street. I explained to them multiple times this particular item needed to be treated well, was expensive and something I explicitly insured.

Thought it was great at the time, but have found damage to most of my furniture while unpacking. My impression is that they try and work so fast they are not as careful as they could be. Despite wrapping all my stuff diligently in blankets and tape, much of my furniture, and other items, have new scratchs, scuffs, dents, and dings. They also damaged the walls of both the place I moved out of and the place I moved in to. This has been the worst moving experience of my life, I wish I could turn back time.

This is the most disorganized moving company that I have ever dealt with. I tried to schedule a simple call to speak with one of their representatives and three different people write me an email over a week suggesting different ways to do so! If they can’t organize a call then I am certainly not going to let them move my stuff !!

Had a bad experience with my last move. Got a rude response when I tried to work with them on correcting it. No longer worth being a repeat customer. Edit: The night they were originally going to move me, someone threw a rock through my rear window. Nothing was stolen. I'll let you draw your own conclusions.

Edit: NorthStar lost three of my boxes. Losing one box would be surprising and frustrating, but three is ridiculous. Included in the lost items was a large box with artwork and photos from my childhood. The communication with them has been …
