Not A Hobby Moving

I used them for a move from my storage unit to my apartment. Everything was good the day of except that the movers took forever to move my stuff I was quoted for a couple hours it ended up taking like seven or eight. They literally were moving one thing at a time. After the move I noticed that my refrigerator for my wine was not working and I have been previously working before because I have plugged in I called them to see what their policy was to file a claim.

Unfortunately I have nothing good to say about this company. My neighbors in my apartment complex hired them to move and one of there employees stole my backpack from my parking spot. Jimmy and Brian where staging items on the left side of the elevator my parking spot it on the right brian went out of his way to take my bag that was behind a bicycle in my parking spot. Brian later claimed he thought that is was part of the stuff they where moving and loaded it into the truck.

I should start by saying the first time we used this company, they were great. We were moving from South Austin to Westlake and their rate was reasonable. The movers also took great care with our belongings and we were pleased with the service. This time however, the rate is a bit higher than we paid previously and are just moving units within the same complex. We initially made the booking last week for this coming weekend, but found a cheaper alternative and decided to cancel the reservation 6 days ahead.

Lack of transparency and terrible communication regarding the deposit. This company did not disclose on their website, nor on the phone when I booked, that the deposit is non refundable. All other moving companies I have talked to expressed that their deposit is 100% refundable. When getting a quote from Not a Hobby Moving, I booked with them thinking I could get my deposit back if I cancelled within a reasonable time frame. I emailed the company but received no response.

The 2 man crew arrived late, to our 2 story home on Alvin High Ln a yr ago, tired at 3pm after finishing a hard move earlier the same day. They didn’t properly wrap framed pictures which broke. The glass had to be replaced. They scratched the top surface of a dresser, which after their handyman tried to repair, looks worse. They scratched edges of the queen bed frame. Their attitudes weren’t friendly or professional. They didn’t finish til 9pm.

The worst moving company I have ever dealt with. Do not waste your money. This company does not take care of its customers and does not take responsibility for damages caused during the move. The owner, Matt, was friendly and accommodating when I first called for a quote and to schedule my move, but that completely changed once problems came up. During the move, the movers damaged my TV stand while carrying it upstairs. I personally saw the leg break off and they did not realize I had witnessed it happen.

This is an email I wrote to the company after being prompted to provide feedback, and they never responded. Hi Matt & company, As I've finally had some time to unpack this past weekend, I noticed that some of my furniture was damaged by the movers. I made it clear that I needed them to wrap and protect all my furniture as part of the move. I was surprised at how quick they loaded and unloaded everything, while I worked on my computer!

I hired not a hobby moving to load some of my heavier items from my apartment into a uhaul truck. I have 2 main complaints: 1. About half way thru the 2 hours I hired them for, I was inside my apartment and noticed I hadn’t seen them in 10-15 minutes. I go outside and see them stacking my box spring and queen mattress on top of a cardboard box, which was sitting on a moving dolly. It was also toppling over. I immediately grabbed the box spring and carried it to the truck myself, which was only about 50 feet away.
