Old City Movers

I paid old city movers to pack and move my house recently. When they finished moving my things I asked about a jacket and they said they left it with one or two other items which I was fine with so I paid and tipped them. When I went back to get my jacket not only did I find way more than one or two items left behind I contacted them and they denied leaving the items, minimized them and tried to charge me for a second move in order to correct their mistake.

Movers were very unprofessional. When they arrived at the destination house, one worker was literally rolling around on the ground laughing outside of the truck. They were making meowing noises and other weird noises to each other and laughing almost the entire move. They completely stunk up my bathroom. I have several boxes that were clearly labeled that were left on the incorrect floor of the house.

I was very excited to work with this company, as I had received multiple recommendations from various family members. When I contacted them, an employee named Charlie responded and asked me to send an inventory list. In the process of searching for a moving company, I had already made a detailed spreadsheet with an itemized inventory, which took me about an hour to create. I sent this to him after submitting my original quote estimate request (in Google spreadsheet format).

I hired Old City Movers to help me pack my 1 bedroom apartment. I was originally quoted $430–$580, plus the additional cost of packing supplies. I have a small one-bedroom apartment, and three packers took 3.25 hours to complete the job. At a rate of $145/hour, plus packing supplies (which totaled to ~$300), the grand total -- for just the packing services -- came out to just under $1,200 after tip. While I appreciated their hard work, the efficiency was average at best, given the size of the apartment.

I would not reccomend. Professionalism and apparently common sense goes out the window with their movers. They tried to have my legally parked car towed because their movers lacked the common sense not to park a moving truck in a field full of grass and mud in a rain storm and got stuck. Before they loaded the truck we as the residents who own our home told them they would be stuck.

Would actually prefer to give zero stars but Google does not give that option. Picked this mover because of the good reviews but now I am wondering if they are legit or just friends. My experience was quite different. They arrived on time and were polite and courteous. This was considered a small move, not many pieces of furniture and very short distance. I questioned the movers as they did not "wrap" the pieces before moving them. They stated that they would wrap them before putting them in the truck.

I am surprised this company has strong reviews, they Illegally blocked the street for an extended period of time due to lost parking spots. I know moving in the city is hard, but they blocked the street and put up cones so that the garbage trucks couldn’t come down and collect the garbage. They also stuck all the no parking signs on the parked cars. If you want them moved just get them towed and don’t block the street. Passive aggressiveness got you nowhere.

Booked them for a move. Reasonable and efficient service. However, I had a box of stuff go missing during my move and they couldn’t bothered to call me back about it. I emailed and left messages, but they didn’t ever get back to me. Once they have your money I guess they don’t care anymore. I get that mistakes happen, wish they would have attempted to correct it. So my stuff is just gone. Just have paid more for a better carrier.
