Sherman Moving & Storage Co

After reading several positive reviews and hearing about Sherman being a third-generation family company, I felt I was making a good decision in hiring a moving company. WHAT A MISTAKE! Sherman represents that the move is insured. This is completely untrue. Coverage is supposed to be limited to $0.65 per pound. Additional insurance is offered for an additional fee. I did not elect the additional insurance. The movers damaged my floor by having a 300 pound tool chest slide off the dolly.

I hired the absolute worst company I could have possibly found when I hired Sherman's. I've used movers in the past from other companies, never had a problem. This was the worst experience of my life. They clearly did NOT listen nor honor any instructions whatsoever. I asked them to mark the contents on the boxes. I had a broken ankle that required surgery to fix it. I was not able to pack my items nor help much at all, which was why I paid to have it done.

The first mistake the company made was providing a quote without visual inspection of the items to be moved. I could not imagine a moving company could be in business for as long as they claim without knowing the fallacy of this practice unless their aim was to defraud and conflate the charges from the beginning . Next, they set up several reasons during the move to justify charging more than the estimate. I paid for packing and moving but they refused to pack saying the stuff was “too much” for them.

No written itemized explanation for nearly $1,500 increase in amount billed compared to quote. Additionally, mileage was computed at $4,320 for quote yet increased to $5,001.60 for bill. Mileage should not have changed. Company assured me they know what cost should be for 1,600 square foot home but verbally said they packed more. Received no written itemization for increase in costs compared to quote. They also used wardrobe boxes and charged me extra when I had no packed clothing.

We had 3 quotes 2 were firm 1 was with Sherman price is per hour. Sherman ended up being higher than the other 2. Also, after inspection we had many pieces of furniture scratched badly. Rather than taking only one day to move us they took 11/2 days raising the cost. They constantly say they are a family-owned business existing for many years. Who cares, we just wanted a good move at a fair price. If they could not finish in one day, they should have worked with us and not ripped us off for the extra 1/2 day.

These great reviews must be from family and friends. This company overcharges, has rude management and employees and ruins things they move. Very unprofessional, 5 year-old's could have done a better job. They tell you it will be a flat fee of $192 an hour which includes travel, supplies and packing and anything else you might want. It took them 9 hours to do a 5 hour job (that is how long it took a year ago, same stuff) 9 x 192. = 1728. Not $4366. and they did over $1700 worth of damages.

Paid 160 hr for 3 guys, and professional full pack out for a lady in a wheel chair, 2 guys showed up... they offer 30$ an hour off of bill, wich took more than 2 hrs longer for less help.. they packed fast! Then we found they had put full dog bowl, (thrown in box) with clothes, pots, pans, electronic stuff, and emptied closets in box, ( no packing just thrown. And we do have pics of all! ) started to rain they didnt want to do more, left stuff in garage said they could do more..

It took them six days to move 30 miles when we were assured it would be a one day move. We were without furniture the whole time and it was miserable. Management offered no regrets or apologies, and in fact tried to blame us for having more furniture than expected when they made a guess without visiting as to how much furniture we actually had.We subsequently learned that this was a common practice and a common complaint. Management was very arrogant and self righteous.
