Smooth Relocation vanlines

I had a terrible experience with Smooth Relocation Vanlines and would strongly advise others to stay away. The original quote they provided was far from accurate, and upon delivery, they tacked on numerous extra charges. At that point, I had no choice but to pay, as they had all my belongings. To make matters worse, they lost an essential piece of my $749 dining table and the leg of my $194 lamp, making both completely unusable.

I do not recommend Smooth Relocation Vanlines to anyone! Please steer clear of their false statements of "using our own staff and trucks". Complete lie. I moved from Chicago to Florida and after a long wait for my items they arrived mostly broken, including large pieces of furniture that were wrapped by the staff of this company. The movers that showed up to drop off were a third party contractor, not only that, they also told me they "hired a couple extra guys off Craigslist to move faster".

I've had a horrible experience. My belongings are now 48 hours late and Smooth Relocation has no idea when it is coming. I was nervous about hiring this company after reading some reviews but George convinced me that moving across state lines is their specialty and that most of these reviews are from their competition. Let me assure you - this is from a customer of theirs who still doesn't have their belongings. I attached the entire email thread for reference.

The only reason I gave them 1 star is because thats the lowest score you can give them. They deserve a lower score. They run a scam. Avoid this company. You will get taken. Trust me. They sell you a flat rate but show up on the day of the move with a contract with all kinds of fees. So what then? Say no and make arrangements with another mover? Thats difficult to do. So they have you and they know it. One fee is what they call a shuttle fee. When they deliver your goods.

We recently moved from Chicago to New York with Smooth Relocation Van Lines and were very disappointed with their service. While the movers themselves were competent, the overall management was dismal and unprofessional: Misleading Quote: Although we specified our move was from Chicago to New York, the quote we received only covered transportation to a warehouse in New York, excluding the last mile delivery. This omission ended up costing us an additional $1,100.

The "binding" estimate they gave me was worthless, I was quoted for 460 CF but was eventually charged for 700 CF, despite the list of items not changing. When I finally got the chance to measure everything myself after they delivered the furniture I can see that I was still over charged by at least 100 CF, and that's with the extra volume from the padding blankets they use to wrap everything. My recommendation is to measure everything yourself before they load it on the truck.

Long story short I contacted them for quote which I had a great sales person help me with. The day of the move they were an hour and a half two hours late. However, the movers were very fast and efficient at packing things and what not. I have now moved to Washington state from Wisconsin and my stuff is still currently in Chicago.

This company doesn't even deserve a 1 star. The moment your phone rings from their sales rep "George" just hang up to keep your sanity. Such a sales man he is...... We were asked to give a "list" of items to put on the truck. The day the movers arrived I asked why they weren't taking, this that or the other, the mover said it wasn't on the "list" so then we got charged extra outside the total of what was given at the time of setting up the move date because their sales rep doesn't listen to details....
