Dowell's Moving & Storage

I've never felt the need to leave a poor review until I dealt with this company. We used them to pack and move our home to UK from Victoria. Good first impression and everything went downhill from there. First the estimate was way off and we needed to leave a bunch of items that were Initially intended to to be sent, other items needed to be sent as a separate shipment which was packedand shipped with other customers at extra charge which is unfortunate but I understand it can happen.

Terrible experience with not one worker, but the second worker sent was just as unprofessional! The first insulted my husband for watching him unpack our livingroom items. He told my husband he should go find something to do. Husband called the company manager and asked him to remove the worker from the job. The guy went upstairs and put clothes into the closets without asking me which closet they went into. So now I have to redo it.

I contacted several movers way back in June/18, as we were moving from Victoria to Nanaimo and I wanted to compare rates as well as service, as only my husband would be there the day of the move and I wanted to make sure of certain things as we are seniors. On the phone, I talked with **** to make the appointment. I asked certain questions like could I get them to pack our tv's, some glass pieces for tables and a poster my husband has.

Avoid Dowell’s at all cost if moving internationally! Hands down the worst service we experienced from our move. Adam was nice and charming when coming to do initial quote, told us they’d help every step of the way. If only we knew….The team we experienced were grumpy, rude and unhelpful. We had to chase them for help and felt like we were an inconvenience, a burden if we had a question or needed some help. . The entire process with Dowell’s made a stressful time even more stressful.

UPDATE: no one is returning calls. I have called several times and they tell me you are in the Vancouver office and out on vacation. They said someone from Langley’s office will contact me but nothing yet. They only sent a repair man to fix a furniture dent. The rest is still pending. Please make a refund for the “professional” packaging as I requested, it’s unacceptable that they packed shoes with kitchen stuff and toys, and bathroom stuff with kitchen stuff, they broke my thermomix and crockpot, etc they made so…

Very disappointed in the service provided for a cross-country move, mostly from a communication and arrival of goods standpoint :( Adam was the only person worthwhile talking to, the rest were unresponsive for a couple days, very rude, and completely unprofessional. Zero communication along the way on status of shipment until several emails/texts were sent, only received a bill when they called the day before demanding payment, before things had even arrived.

AVOID THIS COMPANY. We were charged nearly $3000 more than the estimate they gave us. It was on site estimate so no excuses. When we questioned the discrepancy there was no response, we called several times and no one called us back. The staff then said “this is the new price and you need to do the payment now so we unload the truck”. Unbelivable! They know you are going to pay as you want your items to be unloaded. They really are taking advantatge in a very bad way!

I am truly shocked at how high these reviews are as my dealings and service with Dowell's has been nothing short of frustrating and just plan awful. The movers themselves are great and no problem with them at all in Victoria (hence the extra star), but the office management has a lot to account for. Zero communication from the start of move to the very last minute. I have had to call and email for everything. If management hate their jobs so much, they should do us all a favour and quit.
